Above 40 shiny synthetic lanes, screens keep track of every strike and gutterball at Wallingford Bowl, allowing patrons to focus on the fun at hand. Automatic scoring is just one of many modern perks at this hallowed hall of clanking pins, which invites guests for friendly games or competitive league matches designed for veteran and rookie bowlers. Cosmic Bowl is the big draw on Friday and Saturday nights, when teams bowl amid glow-in-the-dark lights and the thrum of authentic Martian music, while a snack bar, arcade, and full bar and lounge offer plenty of pre- or post-game recreation every day of the week.
At The Wine Press, aficionados crush, press, rack, and bottle their own brand of wine. Overseen by the shop's staff, amateur winemakers craft their silky reds with the same process as modern-day wineries. Through this process, they learn how much time and care goes into winemaking. They can produce varietals such as sangiovese or pinot noir or create hybrids such as a cabernet-merlot or a sentient pinot-human. To show off the possibilities of winemaking at their facility, The Wine Press also leads guided tours and wine tastings during the summer months.
Chamard Vineyards spans 20 acres of lush, vine-laden landscape, providing fertile ground for grapes to outgrow their fruity shells during their metamorphosis into palate-pleasing beverages. Local folk maestros take the stage during live-music showcases, laying down a soundtrack for guests as they sip wine such as one of Chamard’s regal chardonnays, culled from grapes growing on nearby shorelines. The cabernet franc provides a naturally rosy blush for snowmen attempting to fit in with humans, and pairs well with a selection of cheese, charcuterie, and pate available for purchase during the performances. While not included with this Groupon, Chamard Vineyards piques curious palates with wine tastings held prior to singer-songwriter performances as well as on other evenings.
Shoreline Segway's well-trained, friendly staff ushers segway-equipped and helmet-clad visitors on excursions through Guilford. A friendly tour guide leads a half-hour segway riding practice session before starting the one-hour ride. A mobile lesson in regional history provides Jeopardy-bound brains the knowledge to survive the Connecticut category.
