The Survival Race’s 5-kilometer track challenges racers to navigate a gauntlet of mud-laden terrain. Staggered waves of 300 runners each conquer military-style obstacles, wade through murky water, and slide through muddy trenches before reaching the finish line to celebrate at a shindig awash with delicious eats and smitten swamp monsters. Afterward, a Facebook album aids online nostalgia by showcasing dirt-caked athletes and their marshy feats.

Timothy Haskell is no stranger to scaring folks: The Daily Beast considers his Nightmare series "one of the most frightening haunted-house productions in New York City." But when he teamed up with haunted-house vet Steve Kopelman, Timothy didn't want to keep populating creepy corridors with imaginary ghouls. At Nightmare: Killers, the duo tap into the true terror inspired by historical and contemporary serial killers to explore the monstrosity of their actions and the celebrity and cultural obsession surrounding them. The New York Times lauds the attraction as “a taut, assured production that knows exactly what it wants to do (scare the hell out of you) and performs its task with ruthless, coldblooded precision."

In the lobby, a gallery of artwork, memorabilia, and items from or about famous serial killers primes guests on the haunted attraction's theme and provides a glimpse into the warped minds of the killers in question. At the front of the line, personnel can mark any willing visitor’s forehead with an optional scarlet X, which will grant the actors permission to interact with those victims for the next petrifying 20–25 minutes. Inside the haunt, rooms depict scenes based on Ted Bundy and the Zodiac killer, with the occasional cameo from pop culture’s most fearsome fictional figures. To heighten heart rates even more, visitors will also have to navigate twists and turns, fog, and uneven footing as they desperately try to avoid becoming each psychopath’s latest victim.

In 2012, the Bluefish became the first team in Atlantic League history to reach 1,000 victories. It was a huge milestone for a franchise that today, stands as one of only two remaining charter teams throughout the entire league. The 'Fish initially brought baseball back to Park City in 1998, and advanced to the league championship series in a losing effort. A year later, though, they returned with their first league title after defeating the Somerset Patriots.

The Bluefish battle the Long Island Ducks every season for the Ferry Cup, trying to establish regional supremacy on the baseball diamond instead of by firing a barrage of used baseballs across the Long Island Sound.

The successor to Coney Island’s iconic amusement parks of the 20th century, Luna Park delights families with games, entertainment, and attractions ranging from classic spinning teacups to "The Cyclone Roller Coaster", an 85-foot roller coaster originally built in 1927. Designed by course architect Dick Wilson, Garrison Golf Club’s 18-hole course covers the tree-lined hills, valleys, and ravines of the Hudson Highlands as golfers drink in sweeping views from 800 feet above the Hudson River. Without disturbing the native birds and wildlife, the course artfully integrates the natural terrain into a challenging layout, featuring multiple shots that must clear deep chasms and rolling fairways that create tricky hill lies and test golf carts’ vulnerability to motion sickness. Stone walls and mature oaks and hemlocks add to the stately scenery as players grapple with testy hazards, such as those encountered at the par three 17th hole, where tee shots must find a putting surface buttressed by sprawling trees, sand traps, and a stream.

An Audubon International–certified course, Garrison Golf Club’s environmentally friendly efforts include a 2-acre organic farm that sprouts heirloom tomatoes, nine kinds of lettuce, and other greens incorporated into dishes at Valley and Terrace Grill, the club’s onsite restaurants. Guests may also opt to wind down at World’s End Bar, a cozy spot ideal for sipping cocktails or interrogating fellow players about the veracity of their scorecards.
