The New Jersey Jackals, who play at Yogi Berra Stadium, are a professional baseball team in the independent Canadian American League. These bright diamond dogs could be tomorrow's pros; former members who have found success in the majors include Oakland A's pitcher Craig Breslow and New York Mets southpaw Raul Valdes. From the box-seat section, you’ll be close enough to smell the freshly cut grass and hear the catcher tell anecdotes about iron lungs.

43,000 square feet await airsoft players at Strikeforce Sports' indoor, close-quarters combat field. Once games start, that space starts to feel like an entire city. Foam boards have been transformed to look like buildings of brick and stone. Among them, obstacles such as trash cans and cars are the only things standing between players and their opponents. Strategy plays a key role here, as players choose whether to sneak slowly around corners, go through crawl spaces, or storm in and face their challengers head-on. Away from the competitive space, Airsoft pistols and rifles, along with other gear, blanket the walls of the onsite pro shop. Here, staffers help players customize their airsoft guns with add-ons, including red dot sights. In addition to restocking their equipment, players can refuel between rounds at the full-service restaurant and sports bar.

When lifelong dancer Mary Rose Field discovered Zumba, she was an immediate convert. After earning her Zumba certification, she founded Studio Z Fitness and spread the fitness craze at a zealous pace, outgrowing her first studio in only two months. Today, she oversees two studios—Studio Z Fitness and Studio Z Fitness II—and grants members unfettered access to both locations. On a daily basis, Mary and the studio's teaching team guide students through various types of Zumba workouts. Although sessions vary by style and instructor, they all involve fun, easy-to-follow dance moves set to the rhythm of Latin-inspired music. For two years running, Studio Z Fitness has topped the New Haven Readers' Poll as the best place to take Zumba and the worst place to build a house of cards.

The instructors at H2Owls orchestrate their fun and safe swim lessons in accordance with SwimAmerica, a 10-step curriculum that helps youngsters refine their swimming skills. After beginning with basic swimming fundamentals including leg kicks and arm strokes, instructors move on to more advanced techniques based on each student’s progress. To ensure that students receives their due attention and aren’t just tunas dressed to look like children, the swimming school keeps its class sizes small, with a max of five students per teacher in standard group lessons and a max of three students per teacher in the preschool program.
