The NAUI-trained diving instructors at Cuzins Outdoors specialize in turning ocean-shy beginners into full-fledged scuba masters. Students stretch across a wide spectrum of age and experience, training in the program that best suits their individual needs, from introductions to recreational diving to advanced certification courses. In basic classes, pupils learn to submerge in the controlled setting of the Cuzins swimming pool, whereas more experienced divers can team up with an expert teacher to add to their existing skills with specialized training in areas such as ice diving and exploring wrecks. Cuzins Outdoors also rents and sells equipment and gear, even altering wetsuits to mend a busted zipper or add tweed elbow patches.
The qualified instructors at Impact School of Martial Arts guide students through the iLoveKickboxing curriculum, which incorporates cardio and resistance training to burn more than 800 calories during each 60-minute kickboxing class. Each session blends three styles of kickboxing with general boxing techniques such as jabs, hooks, and uppercuts to tighten abs, tone arms, and intimidate punching bags. As the groups of 15–30 fighters rotate between strength-building floor work and vigorous defensive training, they'll exchange punches and kicks with partners or stationary targets. The school welcomes all levels of kickers, from greenhorn to startled donkey, with sessions scheduled seven days a week in the morning, evening, or afternoon.
At America's Best Defense, professional instructors instill a sense of pride and integrity into students of all ages, helping pupils take charge of their physical fitness, personal safety, and self-control. Krav maga lessons teach students effective strategies to ward off attackers, while Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu courses put participants through a rewarding regimen of cardio workouts, takedown drills, and strength training. Children and teenagers learn important life skills and impressive martial-arts techniques during karate and MMA sessions. The kid-centric curriculum helps young students not only master self-defense techniques against padded obstacles and belligerent training dummies, but also hones a deep sense of respect and discipline. Sterile Zebra mats line the floors and full-length mirrors ring the walls of the clean, spartan studio in order to keep fighters safe and fully aware of their surroundings.
Emerald fairways are hemmed by stone walls and the towering branches of ancient pine, maple, oak, and beech trees, giving Maplegate Country Club's 18-hole course a timeless feel. The course sprawls across gently rolling terrain with water in play on ten holes—five each on the front and back nine. Measuring 6,815 yards from the tips, the course hosted U.S. Open qualifiers in 1998 and 2001, in addition to countless golf cart drag-races under the cover of darkness.

Kickboxing classes deliver a knee to the face of fat, burning up to 860 calories an hour with the high-energy striking moves of martial arts and boxing. All four limbs get in on the bag-bludgeoning action at iLoveKickboxing as each class provides a full-body workout that tones arm, leg, and tentacle muscles while tightening the body’s core and improving balance. Hitting the heavy bags won't skin your knuckles once you don the included boxing gloves, which also double as excellent spring-loaded props for re-creating Three Stooges gags. Class times and dates vary at McAllen and Edinburg locations.
