Donnelly Chiropractic Wellness Center

An NCCAOM board-certified acupuncture physician, Scott D. Nelson employs a plethora of wellness-inducing services to fight such maladies as back pain and stress and promote weight loss and fertility. Initial acupuncture visits begin with a consultation, during which Scott takes the long view of an individual's overall health, assesses their goals for treatment, and measures their anxiety level by suddenly popping a balloon. Afterward and on subsequent visits, he inserts very thin needles at key points on the body's energy pathways to release pent-up qi and restore the patient's vitality. Patients averse to needle-based therapy can opt for one of Scott's non-needle modalities, which extend to moxibustion, cupping, and electrotherapy, each adept at relieving chronic pains and aches.

Q&A with the Staff

What is one of your signature services? How is it performed?

Prenatal Massage: Massage for the pregnant client is performed much in the way of a relaxing Swedish massage, with some special considerations. Every woman and pregnancy is unique, so each session is a tailor-made massage ready to promote relaxation and help optimize prenatal wellness. Contrary to popular belief, yes, you CAN have a massage while pregnant, and, conditions pending, can continue to receive massage all throughout your journey. A pregnant belly may also be massaged, with mommy's permission, of course. This is in fact wonderful to receive and carries a plethora of health benefits for mommy and baby alike.

When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?

My interest in prenatal and perinatal massage therapy really began in late 2011, when I was trained in prenatal and geriatric massage in college. This really took off in 2012, when I became pregnant with my first little one and decided to explore what wonderful benefits I could receive from having a regular pregnancy massage from a credentialed massage practitioner. In June of 2014, I took things a step further and took a continued education course in prenatal and perinatal massage.

Out of your entire repertoire, which is your favorite service to perform and why?

It goes without saying that I most enjoy pregnancy massage, my new specialty. Being a mother of two, there's a whole scale of empathy and understanding that goes with caring for other expecting mothers and their babies. Prenatal massage, for me, is as enjoyable to give as it is to receive, and it is an exceptionally fascinating field of massage. In becoming a prenatal massage specialist, it was a huge development in my growth as both a therapist and a mother.

Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?

Prenatal massage received on a regular basis carries wonderful health benefits. To name a few, these can affect mommy's heart rate and lower the risk of blood-pressure-related pregnancy ailments. Prenatal massage stimulates the flow of fluid between mother and child, optimizing nutrition and minimizing the risk of blood deficiency to the uterus.

Meta House, a nationally recognized, gender-responsive residential treatment facility, supports women and their children through the process of recovery from substance abuse.

As one of the only treatment centers in Wisconsin that allows children to reside with their mothers as they undergo treatment, Meta House aims to support children, rebuild families, and end the cycle of intergenerational substance abuse. While mothers undergo treatment—including parenting courses and health education—children up to 10 years old learn interpersonal skills and receive interventional services if necessary in a facility next door. When not in class, women are responsible for preparing meals for their children, giving baths, and delegating chores, to ensure they are able to establish the basis of a healthy family routine.
