At Flying Squirrel Pilates, the staff is as concerned about your skin as they are about your stretchiness. They stock their studio with lotions and scrubs from Fresh Blends, which can help nourish pores between exercise sessions. Of course, their main focus is still fitness, and their workouts range from group maneuvers on the mat to private seminars aboard Pilates equipment, such as the Reformer. During these classes, instructors guide students through focused bends and core-strengthening moves that improve balance, flexibility, and power.

Tazinos Pizza & Salad Bistro provides patrons with a buffet-style smorgasbord of specialty pizzas, pastas, and salads. Already cooking at three locations, a fourth eatery in downtown Milwaukee is slated to open its doors this summer. Each casual restaurant revolves around an all-you-can-eat menu of fresh, nutritious Italian fare, including pizzas crafted from natural Wisconsin cheeses and dough that is kneaded onsite every morning using unbleached flour and absolutely no high-fructose corn syrup, trans fats, MSG, or magic beans. Pies range from classic pepperoni and authentic Italian margherita to the specialty Tailgater, topped with Klement's bratwurst, green peppers, brown mustard, and barbecue sauce. Salads, such as a sweet Asian-style slaw, and pastas, ranging from mac 'n' cheese to garlic-and-herb fettuccini, keep forks gainfully employed, and each meal is rounded out by a selection of soups, desserts, and spicy pepperoni rolls.
On Saturday and Sunday, Sunriza pizzas fend off the morning munchies with renditions of breakfast favorites in pie form. Topping choices include eggs and bacon, eggs ranchero, and morning-fresh veggies, and each slice may be enjoyed alongside other breakfast staples such as french toast, cereal, and mini cinnamon rolls.
As a personal trainer certified by the American Council on Exercise and a licensed massage therapist, Chris Aiello, Jr., has a thorough knowledge of the human body. He created Workout Boss as a facility where clients can tap into his expertise to address issues related to health, posture, and injury all in one place. He chats with patrons during personal-training sessions, encouraging them while blending cardio and a range of exercises in a gym with free weights, cable machines, kettlebells, and punching bags. On massage tables, therapists employ specialized techniques such as myofascial release and lymphatic drainage, which aim to straighten postural irregularities and detoxify muscles, and utilize deep-tissue massage to ease pain from sports or other injuries. The trainer also draws on a stock of recipes and nutritional advice to help clients augment workout plans and shed inches.
Ronda Arndorfer began exploring Pilates in 2001 at the age of 40, when she was trying to recover from the multiple running injuries she incurred while training for her first marathon. Her rehabilitation was so successful that she decided to learn how to share the experience with others. She became a certified Pilates instructor and?after opening a studio out of her home?eventually founded The Movement Center, a place where students can restore both body and mind in a positive, lighthearted environment. Arndorfer continues to attend workshops and teacher trainings with master instructors throughout the country. This exposure has allowed the Movement Center to offer multiple Teacher Training Programs ranging from Pilates, yoga, and barre to the benefit of her own staff members as well as the local movement community.
Arndorfer's passion for movement has paid off: the center has been featured in numerous television and magazine media outlets and was voted the Best Pilates Studio by CityVoter in 2009, 2010, and 2011. They have also garnered praise from a slew of local media outlets. In addition to traditional yoga and Pilates classes, the crew offers innovative and challenging techniques such as aerial yoga?in which students "float" on a trapeze-like swing?and yoga performed on open water using a standup paddleboard. Barre classes require students to hold onto a ballet barre or the outstretched arm of a handsome stranger while strengthening muscles with a mix of yoga- and Pilates-inspired moves.
The center's team includes massage therapists, a nutritionist, and a physical therapist and certified Feldenkrais practitioner who continue the healing that begins within each class. They also offer childcare for guests' convenience.
French, of course, for French Alliance of Milwaukee, Alliance Française de Milwaukee transplants the culture and language of the French-speaking world to the city's Lake Michigan shores. Several teachers help students learn the smooth, mellifluous language even if they weren't born with a Frenchman's velvet tongue, and a variety of events commemorate French history, from the joyous summer hours of Bastille Day to the annual release of the beaujolais nouveau wine each fall.
