  • Movement Center Pewaukee
Ronda Arndorfer began exploring Pilates in 2001 at the age of 40, when she was trying to recover from the multiple running injuries she incurred while training for her first marathon. Her rehabilitation was so successful that she decided to learn how to share the experience with others. She became a certified Pilates instructor and?after opening a studio out of her home?eventually founded The Movement Center, a place where students can restore both body and mind in a positive, lighthearted environment. Arndorfer continues to attend workshops and teacher trainings with master instructors throughout the country. This exposure has allowed the Movement Center to offer multiple Teacher Training Programs ranging from Pilates, yoga, and barre to the benefit of her own staff members as well as the local movement community. Arndorfer's passion for movement has paid off: the center has been featured in numerous television and magazine media outlets and was voted the Best Pilates Studio by CityVoter in 2009, 2010, and 2011. They have also garnered praise from a slew of local media outlets. In addition to traditional yoga and Pilates classes, the crew offers innovative and challenging techniques such as aerial yoga?in which students "float" on a trapeze-like swing?and yoga performed on open water using a standup paddleboard. Barre classes require students to hold onto a ballet barre or the outstretched arm of a handsome stranger while strengthening muscles with a mix of yoga- and Pilates-inspired moves. The center's team includes massage therapists, a nutritionist, and a physical therapist and certified Feldenkrais practitioner who continue the healing that begins within each class. They also offer childcare for guests' convenience.

  • The Barre Code Milwaukee
A shared passion in fitness brought The Barre Code's co-founders Jillian Lorenz and Ariana Chernin together in 2009 to form a unique boutique studio crafted around women's fitness. After years of independently choreographing workouts, the duo joined forces to form The Barre Code ?formerly Barre Bee Fit? a fitness program dedicated to crafting workout regimens around the Barre Code mantra. Since 2010, the pair have been teaching classes that uphold the Barre Code's mantra and promote cardiovascular conditioning, strength-training, and restoration. In a short time, The Barre Code has expanded from a small studio space to a national franchise which includes multiple locations throughout the U.S. Workouts center around the ballet barre and feature stamina-building exercises that help rapidly build stronger arms, abs, thighs, and glutes. New routines are available each week and classes that include kickboxing, high-intensity interval training, yoga, and dance continually evolve to keep up with fitness innovations. Participants can also count on instructors to regularly introduce new props and moves to keep them interested and seeing results.

  • Barre Co.
If you're shaking during your workout at the Barre Co. studio, then you're probably doing something right. During total-body barre workouts, instructors lead you through static stretching and isometric strength moves to sculpt and tone the core, arms, glutes, and thighs. While holding these poses, you'll make small movements to create resistance?which is where the shaking comes in; the smaller the movement, the harder your muscles are working. It's a technique that combines moves from Pilates, ballet, and the Lotte Berk Method, and is designed to show noticeable results quickly. To get the most out of the workout, instructors suggest three or more classes per week.
