Meats, cheeses, fruits, and veggies line the counters and display cases at DaVinci Gourmet Market, where chefs draw upon a palette of fresh ingredients to compose take-home entrees and catered meals each day. To-go containers nearly overflow with wild-rice salad or crab cakes, and entrees of grilled salmon or roasted chicken make for ephemeral table centerpieces. The sun rises over omelets and traditional two-egg breakfasts, and the lunch menu’s specialty paninis invoke the Leaning Tower of Pisa with their stacked toppings and unstable groundwork of toasted ciabatta bread.

An innovative, child-focused program pioneered in Korea, E.nopi's educational classes have enriched and enlightened curious kids for 30 years with individualized approaches that strive to understand the child’s point of view. Each class begins with a skills assessment to tailor instruction to children's strengths before launching into a fun and approachable lesson that may use learning aides such as colorful workbooks, whimsical wooden shapes, and entertaining audio CDs. New concepts are continually revisited in a variety of creative contexts to reinforce learned skills and keep ideas from taking their summer escapes to libraries in the Caribbean, and light, consistent take-home work is encouraged to keep intellectual elements flowing. Math classes stress critical thinking and problem solving to engage brainy bambinos in independent thought as they glean a better understanding of arithmetic, patterns, geometry, and more. Meanwhile, English classes streamline skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, resulting in the ability to lull parents to sleep with softly read news articles. Geared toward ages 3–14, each class is aligned to U.S. educational standards and can serve as educational enrichment, a supplement to regular schooling, or preparation for being a contestant on Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?.

Dr. Henry Viscardi Jr. was born with shortened limbs. Not one to let his challenges define him, though, he worked to achieve his doctorate and went on to serve as the disability adviser to eight US presidents, from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Jimmy Carter. Believing in children's ability to achieve greatness despite any obstacle, he founded The Viscardi Center in 1952. For the last half-century, the center has worked to educate and empower people with disabilities by providing education from prekindergarten to high school, school-to-work transition services, vocational training, and career counseling through a network of organizations.

A member of this network, the Henry Viscardi School was founded in 1962 and today teaches 180 children who have severe physical disabilities such as muscular dystrophy and cerebral palsy. These students learn in small groups of up to nine and study all of the state-mandated subjects, including science and math. The school maintains a host of medical supports, including communication devices, and the help of nurses and social workers, to ensure the children's safety, and it offers extended educational training in the form of postgraduate skills and summer instruction.

The American Dog Club connects dog lovers with puppies looking for a new a home. The organization works strictly with USDA-certified and licensed private breeders, who follow strict regimens for the care and feeding of puppies. Once a pup leaves the breeder and comes into the Dog Club's care, the pet sitters provide an equally intense level of care for each pooch. They feed them doggy milk, baby food, and vitamin-enriched water. They provide them with toys and blankets, and socialize them with other puppies in cage-free play environments. If a puppy lingers with them for too long, they immediately put him or her up for adoption; they like to see their animals land in loving homes, no matter what.

Of course, caring for an animal is a long-term commitment, and they provide services to help out pet owners regardless of their dog's age. They sell a range of specialty toys and foods meant to keep dogs healthy and they groom dogs of any size, trimming nails and shampooing fur.

The faculty members at the School of Rock believe that immersion is the best way to learn any new skill, which is why they don’t just teach students how to traverse the notes and rhythms of guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and vocals in isolation. In addition to teaching students the technical skills during one-on-one lessons, the professional music instructors push them to fuse their individual parts into songs during full band practices with fellow beginner rockers. This combination of one-on-one attention and cooperative group learning helps kids of all skill levels hone their craft while overcoming common pitfalls such as stage fright or playing off-tempo. As kids learn to shred riffs, pound out drum solos, and summon Ronnie James Dio by hitting the correct vibrato atop a silver mountain, the classes build their confidence and kick-start a lifetime of loving rock 'n' roll.
