Aesthetician Kelly Carlson approaches skincare and brow shaping with the meticulous detail of a Swiss watchmaker––a fact suggested by her company's gear-inspired logo. Before every facial, a complete face mapping enables Kelly to identify what makes each client’s complexion tick, and during 20-minute MicroZone treatments she tinkers over specific issues such as blackheads or tired eyes, and repairs broken-out faces in no time at all. Her custom brow shapings utilize a three-point, five-line method that sculpts fringe in line with the natural contours of the face and favors fullness over the skinny, over-waxed brows worn by most modern day silent film stars.
Since graduating with honors from The Aveda Institute, Kelly has gone on to acquire an Expert certification from The International Dermal Institute. She invests her skills in products with potent ingredients and noninvasive technology, including Clarisonic brushes that break up deeply imbedded grime with gentle ultrasonic frequencies.
You don't necessarily go to the spa to be transformed into a new person?sometimes, you just want to be the most beautiful, glowing version of yourself. The massage therapists and estheticians at Wellness Spa of DuoDuo seem to understand this. They don't try to change what makes their clients unique, but rather enhance their natural features with exfoliating facials and other vitamin-packed spa treatments. When they aren't balancing the body's energies with acupressure, the therapists chip away at tension and concrete encasing with Swedish and hot-stone massages. Not to be outdone, the estheticians draw on dermatologist-developed Skintensify products to help maintain clear pores and smooth skin.

When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?
I've always been interested in skincare. I have a six-year degree in chemistry, and because esthiology required a lot of scientific knowledge, I decided to combine them. I started my skincare business in 1995.
Out of your entire repertoire, which is your favorite service to perform and why?
My favorite service to perform is custom essential facial, because I can approach each customer personally and perform the best service according their needs.
What is the best reaction you?ve ever gotten from a client?
One of my clients of 19 years referred her best friend to try my services recently. After the appointment was completed, she said that she would yell at my client for not referring her much earlier.
Notes of relaxing music float through the air within the warm and welcoming private rooms of Massage Retreat & Spa, mingling sometimes with the rhythmic tapping of fingers across sore muscles or the silence of relaxation. While the spa?s massage therapists melt away aches and pains with smooth Swedish strokes or warm stones, their aesthetician counterparts indulge complexions with cleansing facials, waxing sessions, and treatments for eyebrows and eyelashes.
Though their menu of services can seem overwhelming at first, the spa?s staff takes the time to tailor each treatment to clients? individual needs; a health questionnaire and customer profile?required of first-time visitors?assists their efforts to pinpoint your unique ailments and concerns. Their Healthy Savings Plan similarly typifies their dedication to clients.
