Teased Salon owner Brooke Hammer has saved people from what she refers to as "hair hell." She and her staff of stylists have witnessed sea-green color catastrophes; they've consoled mothers whose manes look butchered by their children; and they've rescued cuts after patrons visited a "chophouse with a new girl," says Brooke. For such cases, and for all her clients, Brooke employs the tips and techniques she learned during 11 years and through training with Aveda and Paul Mitchell. Each haircut or style—for men, women, kids, and brides—centers on communication; she consults with clients before snipping a single strand. And she gauges not just physical attributes such as face shape and hair texture, but also personality traits, such as edgy, conservative, or Aniston.
Brooke's path to a career in hairstyling wasn't always laid out before her, even though as a child––to her parents' dismay––she altered the hairstyles of several dolls and a few cousins. Yet she always had a creative streak, which a master stylist and instructor nourished in a protégé program. After nearly a decade in the business, she struck out on her own with Teased Salon, in the company of Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and other Hollywood icons who now star in the salon's chic, vintage decor.
Cheveux Hair Salon's nail-detailing doyen, Melissa Goepfrich, pampers and revitalizes fingers and toes with a six-part spa mani-pedi. The process begins with an aromatherapy soak, which soothes nails' nightmares of being nibbled and supplants fears with dreams of looking lacquered. Then a cuticle conditioning and exfoliating scrub evicts impurities and buffs finger and toe façades to a dazzling sparkle. Hot towels envelope extremities in a terry-cloth embrace, releasing them just in time for a deep massage to ease away the daily stresses of work and high-pressure thumb wars. Finally, Goepfrich will awaken brush from bottle and grant nails three wishes in the form of an OPI base, color, and topcoat.
Salon Fusion's highly trained stylists work one-on-one with clients to fashion infuse head threads with eye-catching color enrich locks with silky, lustrous texture. A 2–2.5-hour Brazilian blowout infuses locks with liquid keratin, straightening out frizzes, curls, and waves and imparting tresses with a satiny sheen. The benefits of the blowout can be enjoyed for up to three months, leaving hairs with all the smoothness and shininess of an Isaac Hayes forged form platinum. Before each two-hour full-dimensional color, specialists confer with clients to design a multishade makeover to accommodate each guest's style, skin tone, and spirit animal.
As an Aveda Concept Salon, Salon 301 equips its stylists with a range of professional products from Aveda and Rusk. Salon MoDa' & Spa's beauty cultivators pamper faces and primp hair, while soothing lavender walls and streams of natural light surround patrons relaxing with a complimentary beverage and reading magazines and books. A shampoo sudsing releases tresses from style-dampening oils before scissor-wielders shape coifs with a series of snips, chops, and carefully placed Jell-O molds. After a blow-dryer sets hair into a street-ready style, a staffer whittles eyebrows into coiffed arches that expressively accent ocular beams; the cut, styling, and wax take approximately 60–75 minutes. During the one-hour European facial, meanwhile, aestheticians thoroughly analyze skin before cleansing the epidermis with an exfoliating scrub to leaves faces smooth without taping a satin cloth to them. A customized treatment mask then seeps deep into pores to remedy skins' particular ailments, leaving a glowing, clear complexion in its wake. While waiting for services to commence, guests can enjoy the salon's free WiFi while seated on the plush crimson couches that brighten the salon like a rainbow in a movie studio.
