Fitness Challenge is a self-described “work in progress gym” aimed at catering the gym-going experience to the needs of its clientele. That goal fits in well with its sub-moniker as the Real People Gym, playing up a philosophy that exercise is for everyone, not just those with Arnold physiques. The welcoming atmosphere makes it common to overhear friendly chitchat among other members between reps or to spot synchronized runs on the treadmill. Despite all the socialization, members mainly spend their time working up a sweat aboard Life Fitness cardio machines—either in the main studio or in the ladies-only room—and get a good pump going with Apex and Hammer Strength equipment.
A full schedule of group fitness classes, including Zumba, kickboxing, and boot camp, elevates heart rates five days a week, while Pilates instructor Joan Klucha targets core strength and flexibility with graceful muscle-toning exercises.
