What started as a beauty shop operating out of Aisha Khalid's home has now, 20 years later, blossomed into 10 full-service, women-only salons. The aestheticians at Aisha's Salon & Spa were some of the first to bring threading to the faces of Houston ladies, whisking away unruly brows, chin fuzz, and emperor-tamarin mustaches with a thin cotton filament. For body depilation, they turn to traditional waxing, and body polishes and facials leave skin rejuvenated and smooth. Stylists trim, straighten, and color tresses, and makeup artists apply finishing touches with traditional or airbrush products.
• For $799, you get six Zerona body-slimming treatments at Bio Skin & Laser in Sugar Land (a $1,695 value). • For $799, you get six Zerona body-slimming treatments at Javani Med Spa in Sugar Land (a $2,200 value). • For $799, you get six Zerona body-slimming treatments at Vintage Wellness and Aesthetics Center in Houston (a $1,500 value). Under the expert guidance of their respective doctors, the staff at each of these medical centers harness the FDA-approved Zerona cold-laser technology, designed to reduce corporeal circumferences by an average of 3.5 inches. During each session, clients relax beneath a beam-slinging apparatus for 40 minutes as it glides low-light lasers over their waistline, back, hips, and thighs, emulsifying adipose tissue so that fat can sneak its way out of the body. The disintegrated lipid depots can then be absorbed by the body’s obsessively tidy lymphatic system and expelled through the body’s natural detoxification process and complex system of water-slides. The noninvasive treatment does not require any recovery time.
Superior Med Spa's team of nurses has developed a menu of nonsurgical alternatives to the face-lift. Aside from the quick injections of Botox and dermal fillers, the med spa's treatments are entirely noninvasive. They rely on lasers, chemical peels, and Einstein's theory of relativity to keep clients looking younger than their years.
The team at Creati'f Spa and Salon does more than just cut hair. Since throwing open their doors more than 25 years ago, their menu has grown to include facials, massages, and permanent makeup. Expert stylists use products from Redken and Paul Mitchell to replicate the latest trends in haircuts and color. They've also recently added laser services to their repertoire, using the advanced devices to rejuvenate skin or remove body hair.
What inspired you (or the owner) to start or run this business?
I was once a waxer at a franchise and had a very good clientele base. I didn't like having to rush clients and push things on them they didn't need. I wanted to create an atmosphere where they feel relaxed and as comfortable as possible.
What sets your business apart?
I have a variety of waxes: hard and soft, different flavored. [All are] biodegradable and leave skin feeling supple soft.
What is your most popular offering?
Brazilians! We offer more of a pampering experience. We use products to open up your pores, so it's less painful. We offer back and neck massages if you had a long day.
Aside from pampering her clientele, Kalologie Medspa founder Tracy Brennan fills her business's shelves with a signature line of sulfate- and paraben-free products, which earned her spa a nod from Elle in 2008 as one of "the 10 best beauty boutiques for hard-to-find products." Aestheticians nourish visages with salutary facials that can include steam exfoliation or fruit enzymes. Additionally, trained med-spa technicians can refine appearances with injectables or IPL treatments, which employ a Palomar StarLux laser system as they target hyperpigmented blemishes or unsightly follicles with controlled pulses of laser light energy.
