When Joan Barnes founded Gymboree Play & Music in 1976, she envisioned a facility where parents and children could play together in a safe and age-appropriate environment. In the following decades, Gymboree Play & Music spread to more than 30 countries across the globe, helping youngsters from infants to 5 years old develop cognitive, physical, and social skills. The company's instructors lead classes such as Play & Learn, its flagship course, in which parents and kids move through a seven-level program filled with storytelling, play activities, and debates on the merits of sandwich crust. Talented staffers also prep youngsters for school and foster development in areas such as music, art, and sports. Throughout all classes, they make use of custom play equipment designed by acclaimed playground designer and seesaw-tamer Jay Beck.

Leash-free dogs frolic as they race and tussle with other canines in Fondren 5 Star Pet Resort's dog park. The fenced, shady yard hosts dogsof all sizes and shapes, so long as they pass a behavioral test, provide proof of up-to-date vaccinations, and can prove they haven't left any hate letters for the mailman. As dogs run about, their owners get to interact with professional dog trainers, who provide tips and advice on how to improve a furry friend's behavior or get a pet to do tricks.
As night falls, staffers move overnight pets into their spacious accommodations, providing dogs with private enclosures, cats with condos, and every animal with a complementary meal of Precise Pet Food. While it's fun to spend time with so many dogs, the resort's owner says her favorite part is watching them leave happy and healthy.

Mary Had a Little Party’s charming candy cart reminds groups that while the times may be changing, a simpler era is not forgotten. Beneath a colorful awning and atop a classic white two-wheeled cart, bountiful candies such as rock candy, cotton candy, and Lemonheads perch to please partiers at any occasion. Kristen, the visionary founder of Mary Had a Little Party, created this candy cart as a way to inspire today’s children with memories of her own childhood, which she spent selling lemonade, making up games with her sister, and creating memories that can’t be bought in a store. She and her crew also please audiences with a traveling puppet theater that reenacts a princess show, or performs a fun twist on the classic nursery rhyme Hey Diddle Diddle.
Dogs bound across the grass chasing myriad toys, tongues hanging to the side. Their human guardian for the day tosses another toy into the air, and the pack of dogs changes direction. This is a regular scene at Lone Star Pet Lodges, where two acres of land provide plenty of space, both indoors and out, for dogs to play. They're supervised by experienced staff members, who have been Outstanding Pet Care Level One certified. Overnight guests bunk down in the suite area, designed to look like a small town in a theme park, complete with fire hydrant and barbershop quartet selling funnel cakes. Cats relax in a separate area, and owners can schedule grooming to keep their dogs clean.
Tastee Buddies serves up a wide-range of American classics, including wings, burgers, and corned beef sandwiches, all made fresh-to-order. Signature sandwiches include fresh-fried perch, catfish, or tilapia piled atop a grilled bun with a tangy blend of tartar sauce and hot sauce, or philly chicken melts, stuffed with grilled seasoned chicken breast, sauteed onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Southern sides such as fried okra and green beans round out meals, while guests also have the option to "Texasize" their meal, which means adding extra meat, fries, and onion rings, and has nothing whatsoever to do with serving sandwiches inside a cowboy boot.
