Even as a 4-year-old growing up in Honolulu, Vee Osborne was drawn to Hawaiian shamanism and the Huna philosophy, which stresses the balance of the mind, body, and spirit through one?s actions. Her early passion for healing others led her down the path to becoming a hypnotherapist, reiki master, and ordained minister before she funneled her devotion to creating harmony and guiding others toward wellness into Plaza West Massage & Day Spa. Here, clouds of gentle music and the scent of essential oils greet her guests, who slip into robes and sip wine as they unwind. And Vee?s Hawaiian roots remain readily apparent, inspiring the spa?s potted palms, bamboo massages, pi?a-colada scrubs, and wall-sized pictures that bring Pacific beaches to Kansas.
Vee?s healing services go beyond relaxation, though. Her team of massage therapists kneads aching muscles with Swedish, trigger-point, and deep-tissue modalities, deepening their knot-fighting effect with volcanic stones and essential oils. After a body wrap with Dead Sea salts or a glycolic peel, guests can visit the two-tiered sauna or extend their rejuvenation with an energy-balancing reiki session. The spa also delves into treatments that rely on electronic frequencies, such as a tri-phasic resonator, which fights cellulite, or quantum electro-ionization, which aims to diminish blemishes rather than cover them up with white-out. Before heading home, clients can pick up body and facial products from Vee?s eponymous line, such as Island Essence hair products, complete with tropical scents.
A diagnosis of chronic migranes in 1985 began Elaine Moranville’s search for a way to transcend the limitations of traditional medicine and trigger inner healing with a pill-free approach. Her investigation led her to reflexology, a foot-massage technique that relieves tension and clears blockages throughout the body by stimulating the 7,200 sensory receptors in the nerve endings of the feet. Now a graduate of the Healing Arts Center School of Massage, Elaine maps out the pathways to self-healing with targeted foot treatments, including energy-balancing reiki sessions, and Kansa Vatki, an ancient Indian technique that harnesses ghee’s heat-storing power. Elaine also mends stressed muscles with traditional massages, which incorporate Swedish, deep-tissue, and hot-stone techniques to ease soreness and heat bowls of posttreatment mulligatawny.

When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?
The first time I recieved a professional massage, I said, OMG; I've got to do this. I was already a [registered nurse], so it was a logical transition... to blend art and science into one career.
The interior of a business can affect how its customers feel. What kind of decor do you use to help make your clients feel pampered and at ease?
I have a very comfortable setting that is also sanitary without looking sterile.
Out of your entire repertoire, which is your favorite service to perform and why?
I love massage and colonics equally. They both satisfy different parts of my being. I know I'm making a difference in someone's life, and that is gratifying.
Inside a spa-like atmosphere, Mind, Body, & Soul's wellness experts tend to physical, emotional, and spiritual health with everything from massage to pain management to Reiki and Jataka. They believe that massage is a vital component of good health, and their Swedish, deep-tissue, and hot-stone sessions fight harmful stress. They combat pain with low-level laser treatments, and use other noninvasive lasers to whittle waistlines and boost body image.
To help improve spiritual health, they rely on Reiki no-touch healing. They also compile Jataka documents?50-page reports interpreted by Indian yogis that discuss the client's past, present, and future. Every Jataka contains charts, calculations, and analytic predictions that foretell such things as when the client will have a favorable period in their career, i.e., when they open that horse-time-share business.

With tanning packages available by the session, month, or year, the facility helps clients maintain bronzed tones no matter the season. To sustain the health of epidermal surfaces, customers can stop spoon-feeding pureed carrots to each pore and instead load up on an arsenal of brand-name lotions, tonics, and bronzers available for purchase. Tanning aside, the salon's aestheticians sap stress during manicures, facials, and a variety of massages, including soft-tissue treatments and magnet therapy.
