As a comprehensive gymnastics training center and a USA Gymnastics club member, Carolina Stars Gymnastics takes its tumbling seriously. Kids as young as 18 months can start on the path toward somersaults, roundabouts, and backflips in fun and engaging parent-and-tot classes. Meanwhile, boys and girls of all ages and abilities can find a class perfectly suited for them. In addition to gymnastics, the training center offers karate classes, aerial dance lessons, and birthday parties.
Carolina Dance Capital is a family affair. Husband and wife duo Fritz and Annette Schulte own the studio along with their daughter, Nina, who serves as artistic director. The rest of the staff includes eight regular dance instructors and more than 15 guest teachers and choreographers. In a variety of classes, they help students as young as two and as old as whatever to get fit and express themselves through ballet, jazz, tap, yoga, and Zumba.
Class sizes are kept small to encourage close personal attention and a supportive atmosphere. Six studios occupy the 8,700 square foot facility, and each is outfitted with observation windows, spring-loaded floors to prevent injury, and Super Soakers to facilitate Gene Kelly impressions. In addition to classes, pupils of all abilities can partake in cheer camps, workshops, and competitive dance teams. A waiting area for parents is equipped with complimentary WiFi.
All Star Gymnastics helps kids as young as two build their motor skills in a safe and friendly environment. Trampolines and vaulting boards bounce students through the air and cushioned mats protect them as they dismount from high bars and balance beams. The gym also hosts birthday parties and day camps, where gymnastics makes for a fun pairing with the likes of arts, crafts, and games.
Koko FitClub?s automated personal-training system rockets both men and women toward fitness goals with 30-minute custom workouts that incorporate cardio and strength training. An initial consultation determines fitness levels and baseline measurements, which Koko?s computerized equipment uses to design a tailored workout plan that precisely measures the weight, pace, and rest time appropriate for each exerciser.
The Koko Smartrainers guide exercisers through each workout and adapt as the user?s fitness needs change in order to constantly challenge the body. Designed by professional trainers, workouts maximize the body?s lean-muscle mass, which can boost metabolism and help shed those hard-to-lose pounds. Exercisers can track their shrinking waistlines and improve lean muscle levels online by analyzing workout scores and comparing individual fitness levels to the Koko FitClub community.
Children naturally believe that life is all about having fun. This requires the instructors at My Gym Children's Fitness Center to perform two seemingly incompatible tasks: helping kids lay a strong physical, emotional, and cognitive foundation and letting them laugh and play to their hearts' content. The staff welcomes the challenge. Grouping kids by age into nearly a dozen different classes, the instructors teach students aged 6 weeks through 13 years the importance and fun of socializing, exercising, and eating broccoli without using their taste buds. More advanced courses, meanwhile, teach proto-persons more specialized skills such as basic karate.
Bruno Melo, known internationally as Mestre Esquilo, which translates to Master Squirrel, is North Carolina's only capoeira master. At The International Capoeira School, Mestre Esquilo draws on his 24 years of practicing the Afro-Brazilian martial-art form that blends music, dance, acrobatics, and martial arts. He's traveled to more than 20 countries for capoeira, and settled in North Carolina's to found the school in 2013. Pupils of all ages and backgrounds study the rich history of capoeira as they perform hypnotic combos and dance-like kicks to drumbeats and Brazilian rhythms. The dance side of things is more thoroughly explored in Brazilian Rhythms classes, where Glau Santana instructs students in twirls, shimmies, and shakes. All levels of dancers are welcome.
