Our menu has a large variety of food and drink items, but is not overwhelming.
What made you want to work with food? When did you first develop that passion?
We started our business to give our neighbors a better option for their morning coffee. Previously, the only options available were coffee from global corporations or from small sheds without plumbing that somehow pass health codes. We pride our self on having one of the cleanest, best equipped espresso businesses around.
Owner and baker Chandell Witham knows real passion for baked goods. To put herself through culinary school, the single mother of three had to work long hours as a bartender in a disappointingly donut-free environment. Her perseverance paid off and today Chandell spends plenty of time with her children and her brainchild, Fritters N Jitters, where she mans the kitchens and whips up tasty donuts. Every morning, she bakes off fresh batches of comforting plain donuts. As patrons order, the innovative baker then outfits each ringed pastry with customizable frostings and toppings to fashion quirky confections her guests can marvel at alongside a steaming cup of coffee or fresh-squeezed donut juice. Frosting choices include classic flavors and wild variations such as mint or crunch peanut butter, and can be accented with a choice of sprinkles, candy pieces, or salty portions of pretzels or crispy bacon.
There's something for everyone at The Den Coffee House & Cafe, from the drip coffee connoisseur to the gluten-free pastry lover. Hot and cold drinks are prepared with care by the Caffe D'Arte-certified baristas, and guests can pick up whole-bean coffees or loose-leaf teas for home brewing and drinking. Pastries and other sweets are baked fresh daily, including banana bread, gluten-free brownies, and signature cookies. The Coffee House also hosts several different types of alternative milks including coconut and almond. Live music on the weekends provides a lively atmosphere without the help of caffeine or by switching out sugar for smelling salt.
Blue Heart Art's passionate staffers hand-select every locally created treasure that they stock, which includes photo-enhancing picture frames ($5.99–$15) and fruit-themed towels, ideal for making soaps salivate and subsequently lather themselves ($6.99–$7.99). Like early morning office hours and turtle races, viewing the shop's art and home furnishings may be enhanced by the consumption of coffee. Blue Heart Art's on-site coffee lounge brews fair-trade, Seattle-roasted beans, and head barista Jordan crafts creative potables such as the smooth and sweet raspberry truffle latte ($3.95 for 16 oz.). The café's warm, lounge-like décor—replete with a couch and club chairs—encourages patrons to relax and hug throw pillows.
The culinary artisans at Pacific Coast pair high-quality ingredients with freshly made sweet and savory recipes. The café menu boasts breakfast all day, serving three-egg omelets with bacon or sausage and toast ($7.95) alongside build-your-own sandwiches, allowing picky eaters to festoon their own comestibles from a range of doughy breads, piquant cheeses, and approval-seeking meats ($7.95). Plop down with a quick indulgence from Pacific Coast’s selection of breads and fresh pastries, and pair a gourmet cupcake ($2.00), specialty brownie ($3.50), or lemon-raspberry muffin ($2.50) with an organic, fair-trade cup of Caffe Vita cappuccino. Pacific Coast’s warm red walls and plush booth seating create an ideal atmosphere for solo relaxation, chatting with groups of friends, or quietly counting down the hours until Earth’s much-anticipated polar switch.
