When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?
While I was growing up, I dealt with bullying issues. Martial arts gave me the confidence to defend myself?without ever having to fight. I no longer looked like a victim, and was no longer too shy to talk to anyone. I made more friends and quickly let bullies know I was not going to be a willing victim. As I entered college, I knew that I wanted to help people feel more confident, deal with bullies, and just be able to enjoy life more.
As the old adage says, "Stuff happens." What training do you and your staff have to stay ahead of the unexpected?
Our instructors constantly receive training at the dojo. As the head instructor, I am always going to seminars to learn new teaching and martial arts techniques. This helps me provide the safest and most effective learning environment possible.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Mixed martial arts is not just about learning how to punch and kick and beat up the bad guy. It's about learning to believe in yourself, feeling better about who you are, and treating yourself the right way by eating and sleeping well.
