Karen Anne Murray, Northern England–born chef and proprietress, strives to present a humble menu crafted from scratch with an eye toward presentation.
Vine-ripened tomato tea sandwiches are stacked with fresh basil and mozzarella, and curried chicken salad joins crisp apple in dainty bites. Fresh berry scones welcome spreads of E&M summer preserves and lemon curd, and mini cupcakes topped with from-scratch frosting end teatime on a sweet note.
However, you can’t just walk in from off the street when afternoon rolls around. Eddison & Melrose opens its doors to customers on a reservations-only basis, even if you just want to grab some loose leaf tea or bags of award-winning, all-natural granola from the boutique food shop.

Visitors to Monterey Mirror Maze and Highway1 Golf Games & Grub can begin their outing with a trip through the mirror maze—a trial in and of itself, since strobe lights and a perfectly symmetrical labyrinth of mirrors mask dead ends and surprising corners. Once maze goers finally break free, the fun continues at the adjoining Highway 1 Golf Games & Grub. Here, murals of the Pacific Coast flank the 3D black-light mini golf course where earthquake motions up the challenge on each par. The heart-pumping Speed Freak course pits up to four players against each other in a life-size version of whack-a-mole. As guests move from one attraction to another, they can stop to fuel up at the snack counter where sliders, corn dogs, and waffles on-a-stick ensure each player has enough energy for a re-match.
Visitors can also reenact the 1933 Cannery Row Bank heist at Monterey Mirror Maze's laser maze, which angles green touch-sensitive lasers into a thrilling obstacle course. As competitors race toward the bank vault to complete the heist, they dodge the beams or suffer a booming alarm and extra time added to their score. Low scores give competitors a chance to land on the top 10 scoreboard.
A house of crayons, a pirate’s ship, and a massive rainbow slide. These are just a few of the inflatables that expend excess energy from Jump-N-Around’s pintsize guests. While younger kids playfully sock each other with giant cushy boxing gloves or bounce around amid vibrant crayon pillars, the older kids can race virtual cars in the arcade.
Monterey Bay Aviation's instructors combine more than 18,000 logged flight hours to teach amateur aviators the principles of piloting. In the discovery flight lesson, soon-to-be-sky-people will first get acquainted with the surrounding Monterey Peninsula Airport in a brief facility tour. Learners will then meet with a pilot, who will explain the major parts of the Cessna 172 Skyhawk, debrief with a pre-flight checklist, and teach mandatory secret handshakes. After a quick weather briefing, the student will plop down on the pilot seat next to their instructor, kick-start the engines, learn how to taxi the craft, and perform a run-up. Finally, with the client behind the knobs, together the co-pilots take to the skies for about 45 minutes to revel in the panoramic local scenery and the assistance of an in-flight genie. Once grounded, the aeronaut will dish out post-flight details and future flight training options, such as official programs or investments in kite-suits.
Powered by local, organic ingredients and fresh-caught, never-farmed-or-frozen fish and seafood, Flaherty's has been a bastion of sustainability since opening more than 35 years ago.
