In 1976, Joan Barnes—a Californian mom frustrated with the lack of spaces where she could take her kids for safe and age-appropriate play time—took matters into her own hands and founded Gymboree Play & Music. In the decades since Gymboree’s founding, Joan’s vision of a safe place where youngsters could build confidence and creativity has come to fruition and spread to 30 countries around the globe. Staffed by attentive and expertly trained instructors, each Gymboree outpost adheres to a curriculum of activities designed by experts to foster the development of children’s’ cognitive, physical, and social skills through structured play and close readings of Goodnight Moon. The staffers also conduct entertaining classes that cover subjects ranging from music to sports, imparting valuable lessons of imagination and physical activity to developing minds. To further set apart her business, Barnes employed nationally renowned playground designer Jay Beck to design the proprietary play equipment at her centers.

With more than 30 years of kid-entertaining experience, The Little Gym provides a safe and noncompetitive environment wherein wee ones can exercise their brains and bodies. Maturing moppets aged 4 months to 3 years glean social and cognitive skills from a parent-child program that helps developing minds learn colors and numbers and helps parents learn to take turns and share. Gymnastics allows energized preschoolers to tumble at their own pace and caters to differing ages, levels of muscle development, and hatred of vegetables. Grade-school gymnasts tackle the mat, bar, vault, and beam in classes set to their ability, not age. Dance and cheerleading classes allow the rhythmically inclined to shake and sway and the vocally enthused to yell things other than other people's Social Security numbers.
Gymboree offers a bevy of baby-engaging classes in which parents and wee ones work together to build tots' creativity and encourage development through play. Weekly classes are available for every age from the freshly born sapling to the 5-years-young wise wanderer. This deal includes rhythm-building music classes, imagination-expanding art classes, and Gymboree's most popular class, Play & Learn. The month-long membership allows you to take one class per week, with make-ups available during enrollment if you miss a class. This deal also includes unlimited attendance at Gymboree's open gym sessions (contact location for schedule).
Head coach Robert Bethea founded Arroyo Volleyball Club as a way to grow the sport of volleyball and nurture young bump-set-spikers into confident and healthy individuals. The nonprofit organization deploys a professional cast of coaches—all certified through the USA Volleyball Coaching Accreditation Program—to locations throughout Durham, where they conduct practices, summer camps, and tournaments and invite all players to participate regardless of their experience level or whether they have springs implanted in their fingertips.
To ensure each student receives personal attention, the club strives for a 6:1 player-to-coach ratio and never lets it exceed 12:1. Instructors encourage each athlete to improve physical fitness and partake in Arroyo's team-based learning dynamic, which instills the lifelong virtues of responsibility, discipline, and always joining spontaneous massage trains.
