A cake-decorating teacher has transformed a former party cake store into Cincinnati Cake and Candy Supplies, which sells an extensive inventory of cake and cupcake supplies to both local and international clients. Besides building its stock of bakeware and decorations, the store also hosts classes on candy making and special courses for children or pie-fearing birds.

Students in 60- to 90-minute classes at the Cheesy Gourmet learn how to make bagel-ready spreads, sliceable block cheeses, and crumbly feta using nothing but cheesecloth and a splash of milk. Participants can snack on provided cheese and crackers or sip wine they brought themselves as they watch Chef Dan demonstrate techniques inside a quaint kitchen painted robin’s-egg blue. After the class, guests leave with enough cheesecloth to make their own cheeses or dairy-based paper-maché art projects at home.

From the welcoming confines of her art studio, Jen Meade calls on more than 35 years of experience as a self-taught artist as she shepherds visitors through their own colorful journeys of self-expression. Group classes for adults instill painters of all levels with new brushing skills, and private lessons give students one-on-one attention to focus on useful techniques, such as disguising mistakes with unobtrusive trees and bobcats wearing sunglasses. During Jen's specialty classes, brushstrokes elude the canvas to instead embellish a variety of creative keepsakes, such as paintable wineglasses and articles of clothing.

Sushi Bears rolls vegetarian and traditional sushi rolls under the direction of Chef Dan, whose passion for healthful eats led him to open his stand at Findlay Market, where he holds weekly sushi-making classes. Sushi Bears’ menu includes smoked-salmon philly rolls and tempura-fried sushi. Chef Dan also hosts sushi-rolling parties in private homes.
