After being laid off from his engineering job, Nelson Berry decided to open Stonehaven Massage & Spa. Now, more than two years later, Berry presides over a Stonehaven location that is as luxurious to lounge in as a private jet parked in a giant jacuzzi. In the stonework lobby, flowers cluster around mirrors and pitchers of lemon water. Murals of waterfalls and oceans signal the themes of each treatment room, where clients can relax during massage modalities ranging from traditional Swedish to deep tissue massage. From there, aestheticians can take over with facials or waxing services.
From the sleek wood of a guitar to the rough stubble of a basketball, the confectionary masters at The Icing & The Cake make fondant look like anything their clients can imagine. Their huge, colorful cakes have served as the centerpiece for many special occasions, such as weddings, birthdays, and daring prison escapes involving the use of a life-size cake replica. The shop's pastry chefs also craft individual cupcakes, cake balls, and cake pops for spur-of-the-moment sweet snacks or to treat septuplets to their own personal birthday cake.
Certified personal trainer Thor Colberg refuses to define the word challenge, as he?s found through experience that one person?s molehill is another?s Mt. Everest. In any given boot-camp session, he might have to work with a new mother, a competitive athlete, and a first-time exerciser at the same time. To accommodate all of these men and women of differing ages and experience levels, he adjusts his regimens to fit each individual and makes doubly sure that no camper is ever left behind on a run or forced to act as a bridge on an obstacle course. During these 35-minute sessions, he leads calisthenics and light weightlifting routines that simultaneously accommodate and test his students. Drawing on extensive summer camp-counseling experience, he also leads boot-camp sessions for kids.
All of Colberg?s services tend to include a nutritional aspect, as he is also a certified nutrition consultant who endorses a holistic approach to health.
The Bindu owner Kelley Gardner began studying yoga in 1989, and since that time she’s worked with world-renowned scholars of yoga theory such as Paul Muller-Ortega, Douglas Brooks, and Bill Mahony. Inside the spacious studio instructors walk yogis through classes that are designed for every level of experience; basic yoga sessions are ideal for budding students of yoga and two-hour practice sessions challenge even the most experienced body benders. Although The Bindu has mats, blocks, straps, and blankets for students to use, individuals can bring their own equipment and should leave any laughing hyenas at home.
