Trail And Mountain's owner inherited a love for the outdoors from his father, an avid hunter. Though the son never cared for hunting, he has followed that passion for nature for the rest of his life, honing wilderness navigation skills by hiking landscapes from the Catskill Mountains to the hills of North Carolina. Today, he marries this experience with certifications in first aid in a quest to introduce others to California's wilderness. During single- or multiple-day excursions in Santa Barbara County and beyond, he helms tours and helps coordinate activities for tourists ranging from day hikes to whale watching to paragliding.
At Fly Above All, owner and P-5 Master-rated pilot Chad Bastian leads a staff of paragliding enthusiasts in their mission to provide training as well as gravity-defying experiences for aspiring aeronauts and purple people eaters. Each tandem flight floats guests down the Elings Park training hill on an approximately one-minute-long jaunt through the lower reaches of the sky, introducing prospective paragliders to the sensation of flight in a controlled setting. A briefing prior to liftoff prepares passengers for the impending retreat of the ground, and attire-aware guests don sturdy footwear, pants, and their luckiest tricorne hats.
Sportations connects amateur adrenaline jockeys to certified professional adventurers, drawing from a nationwide network of aeronauts and speed demons to introduce habitual pedestrians to the wonders of skydiving, ballooning, hang gliding, and stock-car racing. Thrill seekers can zipline across a forest canopy, hollering like Tarzan or taunting nearby birds until they agree to race. Helicopter tours ferry patrons skyward over landmarks and cityscapes, whereas paragliding adventures get up close and personal with blue skies and clouds. For most sports, Sportations accommodates groups of any size, from physics classes empirically proving gravity's existence to solo ballooning supervillains declaring dominion over all they see.
