The "re" in Habitat for Humanity ReStore's name is a nod to recycling, one of the stores' main goals. Each store is stocked with a rotation of gently used and discounted home-improvement supplies. That could mean wares that range from granite countertops to plumbing fixtures, all selling for up to 75% off retail prices.

The stores benefit their communities by minimizing waste and rendering home improvement more affordable, but they don't stop there. The proceeds from their sales benefit local chapters of Macomb Habitat for Humanity, funding affordable housing for those who need it.

English Gardens began as a single, family-owned nursery in 1954, and has since blossomed into a full-service landscaping and garden center with multiple locations, all owned and operated by second-generation family members. Each location facilitates both indoor and outdoor gardening projects. The florist department brings the outdoor flourish inside by arranging fresh-cut floral bouquets and gift baskets for all manner of occasions. Workshops and in-store presentations also allow the green-thumbed experts to impart advice on common gardening and decorating topics such as building a kitchen herb garden or housetraining a dogwood tree. During the summer season, English Gardens holds a summer planting sale as well as weekly in-store gardening tutorials every Saturday at 10 a.m.

Lynn, Patricia, and Martina each discovered a love for design and creativity at a young age, and this passion ultimately brought them together to work at a crafting studio until 2006, when the owner of the studio retired after more than 20 years in business. Not wanting to say goodbye to each other or their customers, the three friends decided to purchase the business, and Crafty Lady Trio was born, creating a place for customers to knit, stitch, and socialize.

When asked what sets the company apart, Lynn Cusumano cites its specialization. "I think we have the largest selection,” she adds, “and largest number of experienced teachers." These resources shine through during classes, which, instead of adhering to specific lesson plans, cater to each student's skill set. Pupils purchase kits and patterns ahead of time from Crafty Lady Trio's store, and then help them blossom into colorful projects such as scarves and shawls with an expert’s guidance. The trio also leads longer crafting retreats and a weekly club for more advanced projects.

Courses take place within a 3,600-square-foot studio space that holds five teaching tables. For the trio and their students, this isn't just a place to work. It becomes a haven for making friends and sharing a passion for needlework.:m]]

With a passion for beer that extends to becoming a BJCP certified beer judge and a student of beer courses at The Siebel Institute of Technology, Andy Moore joined the staff at Cap N Cork Homebrew Supply more than 10 years ago. Today, he owns and runs the business, giving him "the ability to talk about beer and wine all day long," which he cites as the part of his job he likes the most. He and his experienced employees put their customers' needs first, answering any questions they may have. These items can include the 34 types of beer kits that grace the shop, including IPAs, hefeweizens, stouts, and seasonal varieties. Frank Mancuso Sr. opened the original Mancuso's Florist in Detroit in 1923 and even kept the doors open on Sundays—a rarity at the time—in order to provide the citizens with the perfect arrangement any time they needed a gift or to dress up their homes. Since its launch close to 90 years ago, the store has opened and operated every single day of its existence. They've never stopped prioritizing customer service, accommodating special requests that include creating personalized baskets for memorable occasions and delivering arrangements early in the morning, before sweethearts crawl out of their cocoons.

The family's three generations of hard work have paid off. Mancuso’s Florist won Best Flowers in a 2012 poll of CityVoters, and readers of St. Clair Shores Patch named it Best Florist in 2012. In addition to providing breathtaking flowers and plants, the knowledgeable crew can recommend thoughtful gifts and novelties. Seasonal "epic roses"—which stand more than 5 feet tall and grow between two volcanoes in Ecuador—were featured on Fox 2 News and are ideal for expressing affection to an NBA player.

Conner Park Florist's botanic buffs have been artfully assembling bountiful arrays of fresh blossoms by hand for more than 60 years. The best-selling Teleflora’s Be Happy bouquet of yellow roses, daisy spray chrysanthemums, and oregonia delightfully sprouts from a smiley face coffee mug ($32.95), offering a cheery alternative to the cold gifts of the modern age, such as emoticon emails and boutonnieres of prismatic floppy disks. Reveal secret feelings for a crush or spoil a pet honeybee with a Be My Love bouquet, which culls red roses, carnations, white asiatic lilies, and chrysanthemums in a ruby-red glass vase ($42.95). Conner Park Florist’s stash of plants give recipients the gift that keeps on growing, including the Sweet Violet Trio that amalgamates one purple and two lavender african violet plants within a wicker basket ($37.95). Otherwise, a small Simply Elegant spathiphyllum ($42.95) speaks to simplicity with lush green leaves and white blossoms in a natural nacelle.
