In 1981, lifelong Greenwich residents Mark Curtis and Chris Fisher traded in their business suits for sudsy sponges when they purchased Greenwich Car Wash. 13 years later, they renamed their business Splash to coincide with an innovative idea developed by the duo: wash the cars by hand while also using a conveyor to keep them moving rather than trying to coax them forward with candy. That approach was a huge hit, and soon, Splash began spinning off into additional locations.
Today, more than 15 Splash locations are peppered across the East Coast. What started as a humble two-man operation has grown into a franchise that employs more than 500 people and washes more than a million cars per year. At each location, cars receive the ultimate in pampering thanks to a list of services that includes hand washes, express washes, detailings, and oil changes. Despite such impressive growth, though, Splash remains true to its community-driven roots, working with more than 400 charitable organizations on an annual basis.

The crew members at Jeter's Hand Car Wash and Auto Detailing take years off the appearance of every automobile that crosses their way. Their car detailing services, which include hand washing, are designed to give each car the same gleam it had when it came off the factory line. They take great care with interiors as well, cleaning carpets and even installing new car stereos.
The ASE-certified technicians at Mickey's Automotive, a NAPA AutoCare Center, help cars survive all four seasons with expertly rendered services at a shop that's been run by the same family for more than 40 years. During an oil change, deft mechanics lure the old lube out of the car, replace it with up to five quarts of clean crude, slap on a filter, and take a 30-point tour of the car, checking for potential hazards and adjusting imbalanced rearview-mirror dice.
Sudz Car Wash and Detail Center's three locations transform dirty cars into shiny driveway adornments. During each full-service wash, technicians vacuum the interior, clean the windows from the inside and out, dust the dash, wipe down the doorjambs, and wash the exterior until it's as reflective as an out-of-work psychologist. The service extends to the deluxe car wash, which rewards auto exteriors with dollops of glossy triple polish and clear-coat wax to heighten the finish. An underbody wash sweeps away road grime and a quick gloss of tire dressing straightens the posture of wearied rubber. Finally, staffers scrub out rubber mats and send the car off looking so good that parking meters will offer to foot the bill.
During his frequent travels, entrepreneurship professor Bill Guerro noticed both the high cost of airport parking and the congested drop-off area at the local terminal. Noticing a vacant lot on campus, Bill wanted to marry available resources to the situation, and brought his idea to one of his classes. Students crafted a business plan for a discount airport parking service that would also benefit the community by returning profits to the students and campus of the university. Offering short- and long-term service at reasonable rates, Purchase Park 2 Fly remains an extension of the university, and Phil Sanford—one of the students in Bill's initial entrepreneurship class—continues to serve the project as marketing coordinator. Profits help support Purchase College through scholarships and capital enhancements to roadways, facilities, and gold-plated foam fingers.
