Everyone knows there's no place like home. Which is why the owners of Steel City Pizza Company decided to bring their hometown down South with a menu of Pittsburgh-inspired eats. They fly in hoagie rolls from Cellone's Bakery—an official partner of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pirates—to ensconce their submarine sandwiches. They have staffers roll out house-crafted pizza dough to the particular thickness they recall from their childhood memories. And they make sure their extensive selection of craft beers includes bottles and drafts from Pittsburgh's own Iron City brewery. But the eatery's Pittsburgh theme isn't its only draw; creative recipes and quality ingredients back each item on the menu. Cooks craft both pizza sauce and sweet, bubbly sodas in-house, and carefully sprinkle crusts with quality Grande cheese from Wisconsin. They also concoct original dishes such as Weggies, oven-baked sandwiches in which slices of bread, like the wheels on most pizza delivery trucks, are replaced with disks of crusty baked dough.

Rae Prater loves her job. A lifelong pet owner, she founded Prater Tot’s Pet Sitting & Concierge Services as a way to extend the time she spends with animals into her workday hours. Her affection for four-legged beasts shines through in each of her pet-sitting sessions, during which she spends 30 minutes playing fetch, administering medicine, watering houseplants, and transporting pets to the vet. When she isn’t looking after dogs and cats, Rae runs errands for clients as part of her concierge service. Her day-to-day tasks include everything from waiting for repairmen to shopping for groceries and stuffing jello into the mailboxes of mortal enemies.

Family-owned-and-operated London Hair has kept tresses ahead of the times for each of its more than 50 years in business. The salon’s six scissor slingers have been trained in both cutting and color techniques and happily overhaul dated head threads on the run from the fashion police or relentless wigmongers. Ladies can treat cranial insulation to a chic new ‘do ($30–$96 depending on stylist) or send in a hairy he-beast for a men's trim ($25–$57 depending on stylist). Technicolor specially selected strands with highlights ($30+), or get dye distributed equally for an all-over color ($30–$67 depending on stylist) to keep follicles from quitting and joining the circus as bearded-lady beards.

The Teak Hut’s expansive array of durable wood furniture presents a beautiful alternative to traditional room fillers and patio paraphernalia. Each of the more than 100 available pieces is solid teak wood, which can survive for more than 25 years and features a naturally high oil content that helps it resist cracking, splitting, and rotting. Sate melanin-craving skins while standing on a sun-chaise lounge ($349) or gaze across patio kingdoms from a bucket-seated Adirondack ($269). A 24-inch bar table ($249) with matching chairs ($149 each) is a perfect excuse to take a pinochle game outside, where shuffling cards is less likely to break lamps or china. For possessors of two or more posteriors, a selection of benches and porch swings lend a natural-hued elegance to opinion-airing sessions (starting at $209 and $259 respectively).

Each year, more than 100,000 people trust the grime vanquishers at Lyerly's Cleaners to erase unsightly stains in a timely, convenient manner. The affable staff can cleanse barbecue-sauce-stained dresses ($11.25), wash donut jelly from suits ($11.85), remove clingy suitors from sweaters ($6.45), and spiff up garments of all varieties. After their laundered raiment is delivered, customers can flaunt crisp pants ($5.65) and fresh-smelling ties ($11.25) on the red carpet at a nearby rug store. Prices may vary for clothing that is made of unusual material or has been stored in a hollowed-out gourd.
