Named after the military fortifications that once protected the Carolina coast's precious stores of 9-volts, the Charleston Battery attempts to bring Europe's practiced and precise brand of soccer across the Atlantic, their cleats sharpened by regular exhibitions with teams from the English Premier League. The team has snagged four USL-Pro league titles, performing amid a human mosaic of yellow and black at Blackbaud Stadium, which channels the vibes of British football stadiums with clear sight lines and an English pub, The Three Lions.
Mount Pleasant Futsal Academy isn't a soccer school. Instead, the coaches here teach the highly technical sport of futsal, which employs a smaller ball that demands precise control. Futsal played a formative role for some of the world's biggest soccer stars, including Ronaldo, Messi, and Ronaldinho. The academy's training programs cater to players aged 4–14, whereas its team and individual programs build the technical finesse and skills needed to compete at a high level.
Beyond providing an opportunity for friendly competition and social interaction throughout the Denver area, the organizers of Denver Bocce League only have one mission: help players have fun. During each season, teams of up to 12 players compete in lighthearted bouts of the classic Italian game, which unlike other sports, requires little to no experience, physical exertion, or physics PhDs to master. After each game, teams can head to local bars for exclusive drink specials, and a variety of prizes await the victor of each season's playoffs.
The Charleston JCC creates an inclusive atmosphere where neighbors can learn about area arts projects, workout in a state-of-the-art facility, and take part in sports programs. Families can swim together at the pool and kids can make friends at the summer camp. There are also a variety of programs for seniors including fitness and scrapbooking classes and weekly mahjong games.
