Kids go to the Golden Life Resource Center for not only for tutoring, but also for assistance in planning their futures—the tutors helps them with college applications and job searches. The nonprofit doesn't focus exclusively on kids, though; the team also strives to enrich the lives of senior citizens with resources such as technology training and fitness classes.
Since 1985, the Real Estate Education Center has helped real-estate professionals advance their careers through licensing courses accredited by the New York Department of State. Instructors at all four city locations—each in a different borough—couple classroom teachings with their personal real-world experience, helping students to learn not only the nuts and bolts of the industry, but also how they’re put into practice. The center comprises six licensing and certification schools, including Real Estate, Green LEED, Appraisal, Mortgage, Property Management, and Insurance. Each track requires different coursework and testing; a compendious overview of those requirements and an unofficial fan site for Glengarry Glen Ross can be found here.
Matt Warshay understands the importance of education—along with a bachelor’s degree in business and an MBA in strategy and consulting, he is a certified high-school math teacher. But it was his first-hand experience at ineffective group studies that lead him to develop Jump Start Tutoring, where students in kindergarten through college are given customized studying tools to help them pass ACT and SAT exams, various school subjects, and even nursing-school entrance exams.
At more than 900 learning centers across the world, Sylvan Learning offers kids a leg up through personalized programs prescribed by an in-depth skills assessment. Students build on past lessons to learn progressively, and sessions may hone in on different disciplines, granting kids the confidence to interpret literature and the rhetorical skills needed to negotiate a later bedtime. The positive mindset of personable, invested instructors helps to inspire kids to greater academic feats, as does a prize program that rewards hard work with CDs and gift cards.
