Arthur Murray Dance Studio has been a leading name in franchise dance since 1912, when the entrepreneur began selling mail-order dance lessons. Expanding his reach, he enlisted teachers to spread his signature dance lessons on first-class steamships and skyrocketed to fame in the '30s after introducing the public to such dances as the Lambeth Walk and the Big Apple. By the 1950s, Arthur and his wife, Kathryn, were hosting their own highly popular TV show on ABC, the Arthur Murray Dance Party, which ran for 12 years. Today, Arthur Murray's team prepares students for rug cutting at special events and weekend nightclub jaunts. Clients who arrive to lessons partnerless will be paired up with other classmates as the instructors assess their current skill level and make recommendations on the most appropriate program. Throughout lessons, instructors teach the foundations of two to four dances from a long list of styles that range from Latin to country-western, helping students to learn basic step patterns, timing, and the ability to lead or follow.
Taking dance lessons can be an exciting and wonderful adventure. We also know that it can be intimidating to make that first call or even get through the door of a dance studio. You will feel the difference when you walk in the door of Abayas' Ballroom. Enjoy the hospitality and warmth on your very first lesson.
At The Dance Within, teaching the steps for belly dancing, hula, Bollywood, and burlesque isn't enough. The instructors also want to teach students about the culture surrounding the dance. The studio features a salon where you can get a henna tattoo, and a boutique shop where you can find dance garb such as burlesque bustiers, Bollywood disc earrings, and jerseys of popular ballet dancers.
Inside Pole for the Soul, women are free to shimmy, spin, and unleash their inner tease in exotic dances that build both strength and confidence. The studio’s encouraging environment invites guests to balance above the ground in pole-dancing lessons, peel off layers of insecurity in no-nudity strip-tease classes, and let their bodies follow musical inspiration in floor dances. Sensual sessions target groups of muscles that can be overlooked in traditional workouts, toning cores and strengthening arms and legs. Pole for the Soul also offers pole-dance parties for bachelorette festivities or girls’ nights out, where everything from the music to the intimate ambiance creates an atmosphere of fun and exploration.
From Divine Movement's twin studios in Kirkland and Seattle, co-owners Angi Cardwell and Jennifer Patenaude oversee a sultry suite of pole-dance and boudoir-dance classes set to the sounds of heart-pumping rock, indie, and hip-hop. Though not specifically a workout regimen, the floor-based and pole-vaulted routines are high-energy maneuvers that help to boost confidence and create a positive self-image. Six-week series cater to beginners and intermediate seductresses, and more advanced drop-in sessions cover holds, inverted handstands, and midair tea service. The dress code calls for comfortable yoga-style wear and bare feet or legwarmers.
