To kick-start cardiovascular health, Power 2 classes sweep sinews through a fast-paced sequence of fluid Vinyasa poses, and Express Yoga loosens up taut muscles and rusty Leave It to Beaver lunchboxes during swift 45-minute sessions. Alternatively, pupils can gradually banish stress with Deep Flow classes, which nurture supple sinews with meditative, sustained poses that make The Thinker statue seem fidgety.
At Utah Digital Trail, a Utah-based freelance photographer hosts hands-on workshops to help students harness their creativity while capturing evocative images. Workshops such as The Art of Composition and Canvas Gallery Wraps cover a range of topics and offer shutterbugs the opportunity to add new skills to their tool bags or fanny packs. One-on-one instruction lets students choose their own areas of focus during private sessions.
With the private, personal instruction from experienced musicians, kids will soon be shaking the walls and integrating British slang into their vocabulary. In the Performance Program (a $275 value), budding musicians learn the fundamentals of playing an instrument during a weekly 45-minute private lesson as well as one weekly group rehearsal. At the end of the season, students have the opportunity to perform at a rock venue (past student performances have included Pink Floyd's The Wall, AC/DC, Best of the '80s, and Devo). The All Access Membership Program (a $180 value) offers a 30-minute weekly lesson along with a one-hour weekly jam session and two tickets to each of the school's seasonal shows. In this program, students are free to focus on what they want to learn, whether it be perfecting a favorite rock song or practicing improvisation skills. Enrollment is rolling and based on seasons.
Darla Davis can fly. Suspended from long, flowing silks, she tumbles through the air with grace and elegance, creating movement that's athletically and aesthetically impressive at the same time. An experienced performer, she has honed her skills on the aerial silks with guidance from some of the same trainers who work with Cirque du Soleil. When she's not performing, Davis introduces others to the world of aerial acrobatics, teaching children and adults challenging and exhilarating moves. Classes at her sunny studio include hand/body balance and aerial yoga.
Tadasana Yoga Studio's 10 instructors tap into years of training and experience to lead enthusiastic yogis of all levels through heated group-exercise classes. Ninety-minute Bikram yoga classes encourage participants to unfurl across yoga mats through a sequence of 26 postures as tireless air ducts and domesticated dragons heat the space up to 105 degrees. Power Vinyasa classes in 60-, 75-, and 90-minute sessions reach 95-degree temperatures as Baron Baptiste–inspired exercises strengthen muscles and cores. Eighteen weekly yoga classes are held as early as 6:30 a.m. or as late as 6:45 p.m., allowing for heated workouts before breakfast or following afternoons spent painting still lifes of breakfast.
Popcorn Media gives kids the chance to experience strutting down the red carpet during their Movie Star workshops and weeklong camps. Attendees soak up the secrets of screen acting from a director who works with Disney and Nickelodeon studios while producing their own unique work. They oversee each production element that goes into a film's creation, from lighting and filming to rehearsing and giving their parents an autograph. At the end of each camp, kids attend a red-carpet premier of their work amid the applause of friends and family.
