As ceiling fans whir and beer signs cast a neon glow inside Rickochet Billiards, pool balls clack against each other and head-nodding beats keep the atmosphere upbeat seven nights a week. Stick-wielding customers face off at one of many pool tables, or grasp controllers to play video games on big-screen TVs. Bartenders at the full-service bar dispense draft beers and cocktails, accompanied by menu items including cheese sticks, pizza, wings, and onion rings. Daily specials include 8-ball tournaments, cue stick and case raffles, and showdowns to determine who can hold the most pool balls in their mouth.
A name like Crazy Dave's Daiquiri Bar and Grill carries with it certain expectations. One wouldn’t be surprised, for example, to hear that raucous crowds regularly descend on the bar to cheer for their favorite sports teams. Nor would it seem strange to spot a funky band or a karaoke diva on the restaurant’s stage. There is one thing that Crazy Dave’s takes seriously, however: its daiquiris. Twelve flavors of daiquiris blend into 28 combinations with whimsical names such as the Flamingo—strawberry and piña colada—and the Mr. Wonderful—white russian, strawberry, and amaretto. The grill offers a hot and spicy counterpoint to the blended drinks’ chill with its Southern-style po’ boys and seafood. All entrees come with fries or beer-battered onion rings, which double as lifesavers in the event that someone falls into a gallon-size jug of daiquiri.

Building on the writing tradition of William Faulkner, Eudora Welty, Richard Wright, and other players in Mississippi's literary heritage, New Stage Theatre populates its stages with contemporary and classic works by American playwrights. Often comical, often challenging, each season's flock of five musicals and straight plays spreads across colorfully set stages with an aim to attract a culturally diverse audience. The artistic staff balances works by the likes of Lorraine Hansberry, Arthur Miller, and Horton Foote with new and developing productions through the Eudora Welty New Play Series, named for the writer who served on the board of directors. New Stage Theatre staff complements their theatre's strong artistic vision with educational programs for youth and adults, including touring programs. These outreach endeavors earned theater staff the 1995 Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts. While the original New Stage Theatre was founded in an old church 46 years ago, all of its performances currently fill the large and small theaters at Jane Reid Petty Theatre Center.
