More than 30 years after its inception, Cactus Salon & Spa and its team of continually educated stylists have not lost their edge?they earned the Long Island Press's designation as Best Hair Salon and Best Day Spa in 2011 and 2012. It's not surprising, then, that the salon has enjoyed such impressive growth over the years, with more than two dozen separate spa and salon locations.
Although hair is still the focus?stylists craft 'dos that reflect everyday ease or fashion-forward thinking?the repertoire has expanded to include everything from nail treatments and massages to permanent cosmetics and laser services. Since the roster is so broad, many clients take advantage of Cactus Club memberships, which give them the flexibility to try multiple services and products by deactivating the force fields between treatment rooms and granting a 33% discount on Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Beauty Garden welcomes guests with a white trellis adorned with pink flowers. Floral wallpaper draws guests further in before stylists lead them to a mirror-facing chair for a hair treatment or to a nail station for some hand and foot pampering. They color, curl, style, and trim hair or adorn nails with painstaking nail art and hydrate hands with paraffin dips.
Live music and a duo of fireplaces create a cozy ambience inside Restaurant Five Five 2, an eatery named for its address on North Country Road in St. James. Chef prepares small-plate tapas such as the PEI mussels steamed in lobster broth and salmon tartare served on crisp wontons with spicy mayo, more substantial entrees such as New York Strip Steak or Linguini Pescatore, along with sliders that a New York Times reviewer praised as "the best sliders I?ve ever had, made with Angus beef, cooked precisely to order (medium-rare) and running with juices." That same review described the desserts such as the cr?me br?l?e, as "perfect: thick, cold and satiny." Five Five 2 was also voted one of the best restaurants of 2013 by Newsday.
Rolando Cevallos's beauty career began with makeup, but after mastering the art—and working his way up to become the creative director of Chanel—he decided to segue into hair. Rolando perfected his techniques as a top stylist in numerous New York salons before opening Paris Salon. He is constantly looking for new ways to elevate his craft, and, through frequent trainings and lots of hard work and positive energy, encourages his staff to do the same. Together, they perform designer haircuts, color, and makeup applications in the chic salon space.
