At Lakevue Athletic Club, a staff of seasoned competitors breeds a love of fitness through tennis, group exercise classes, and personal training. Atop eight indoor courts and three outdoor courts, a fleet of tennis pros enacts lessons anchored in players' strengths. They specialize in QuickStart tennis, a recently minted method of play that emphasizes building the skills and confidence of child athletes without serving them trophy-shaped pancakes for breakfast. Within the walls of an 11,000-square-foot fitness center, personal trainer Kyle Waters shepherds clients through two downstairs cardio rooms with Star Trac treadmills and several weight rooms loaded with Cybex Eagle and Hammer Strength machines. Inside two studios upstairs, health gurus conduct classes in everything from yoga to step aerobics to kickboxing.

Born as the Greentree Racquet Club, Greentree SportsPlex underwent extensive renovation to emerge as an 80,000-square-foot, multi-sport facility. Free weights, kettlebells, and Legend Fitness weight machines line the bright red walls. Meanwhile, a batting cage comes in handy during onsite lessons that cover the fundamentals of playing baseball and softball, as well as surviving the uprising of pitching machines. During boot camps, instructors lead their groups through obstacle courses, core work, and whole-body exercises on the indoor turf. They also motivate clients during personal-training sessions and group fitness classes, including Zumba dance aerobics and spinning sessions set to energy-packed music.

Throughout the year, the USPTA-certified professionals at LaTuchie Tennis Center hone the on-court skills of adults and kids alike during social tennis courses. No more than eight students participate with each instructor, allowing the instructors to fully grasp each player?s strengths, weaknesses, and areas that need the most attention. Lessons unfold on four outdoor courts during summer months and six indoor courts, helping students test their playing abilities in different settings regardless of outside or inside dust devils. LaTuchie Tennis Center also keeps players well equipped once their lesson days are over with gear and racquet-repair services at their full-service pro shop.

Neon streaks fly over and, occasionally, into the four nets at Green Tennis Club, a sign of players taking vigorous whacks with their tennis rackets during casual play and lessons. Certified USPTA professionals lead the lessons, imparting advice for smashing powerful ground strokes and developing a serve in both private and group settings. The teachers also organize weekly group drills, which invite players of similar skill level to practice different aspects of the game.

Many gyms are essentially adult playgrounds where grownups run, jump, and sweat with their friends. The trainers at Pure Athletex Sportsplex take that idea one step further, complimenting their 1/8-mile track with a custom, adult-ready jungle gym. They challenge members to complete exercise circuits blending climbing and swinging with more standard cardio and strength training. They take on whole groups of students in regularly scheduled exercise classes ranging from yoga to TRX suspension training and Zumba. They torch even more calories with nationally renowned Les Mills group aerobics, which ramp up heart rates through time-tested methods of high stepping or releasing vipers into the classroom.

When not helping members achieve their general health goals, the trainers turn their attention to more sport-specific training. They offer speed and strength conditioning geared toward multiple games, but their headline sport is tennis, for which they host an entire academy with indoor and outdoor courts. They invite members to relax as well as work with an onsite, health-focused restaurant and juice bar called Pure Hospitality.
