Perhaps it’s their diverse backgrounds—a former D1 college assistant baseball coach with a master's in physical education, a sports-psychology counselor and fitness trainer, and an amateur baseball leaguer—that make the coaches at Pitch by Pitch All Sports Camps open to such a wide variety of athletics. Their weeklong camps embody everything from baseball, soccer, and tennis to less regimented sports such as floor hockey and Capture the Flag. Through drills, games, and relays, coaches teach young campers how to command the field with confidence, while still displaying good sportsmanship. And since it all happens at Congers Lake Memorial Park, full-day campers can spend their lunch breaks swimming in the community pool, playing in the game room, or fishing for their lunch in the lake itself.
Since 1978, Champion Day Camp has sated kids’ hunger for summertime adventure. During day camps, children are divided into small groups organized by age and supervised by staff members who are responsible for three to five campers each. In this nurturing environment, kids can make friends and learn new skills as they enjoy a range of activities such as the Ropes Adventure program—which includes climbing walls, ziplines, and a 52-foot “Humongous Tower”—or computer-, yoga-, and photography-based activities. Champion also stages traditional camp activities, such as swimming, soccer, and speculating on the ingredients of bug juice.
At New City Yoga, programs for adults and children alike focus on challenging the mind and body with a mix of modalities including yoga, tai chi, ki gong, and energy healing. Yoga classes focus on physical well-being with strengthening and toning work, and they also benefit students emotionally by introducing techniques that can improve emotional health by breaking unhealthy habits, including how to get the Cookie Monster off your speed dial once and for all. Along with meditation classes and private healing-massage sessions, the center also hosts energy principle and other meditation-based workshops.
