Wicker Emporium’s product buyers scour lands near and far to find elegant home accents for their customers. The practice of travelling to different countries began more than 35 years ago, when the company’s heads joined the crew of a pirate ship to pay off a gambling debt. Today, in 20 stores across Atlantic Canada and Ontario, customers can still browse pillows, quilts, mirrors, outdoor accessories, and shelves imported from local manufacturers and international crafters.
Noble Grape arms amateur vintners and would-be brewmasters with the equipment and supplies they need to craft their own reds, whites, and brews at home. The store's winemaking starter package includes 15 items crucial to turning lowly grape juice into nectar worthy of Bacchus, including a fermenting device, racking accoutrements, a 23-litre glass carboy, a bottle filler, sanitizer, and a moody yet talented wine whisperer to tame the grapes. Oenophiles can choose from a stock of 25 Vintners Reserve wine kits designed to yield 23 litres in varietals ranging from pleasantly acidic chardonnay to bold, palate-blanketing cabernet sauvignon, or opt for a Twisted Mist wine-cocktail kit in flavours such as strawberry margarita and mojito. This option also includes $20 off a future wine-kit purchase.

Pro Tip: Huge portions—bring a healthy appetite.
When the Chronicle Herald writer Bill Spurr arrived at Sydelle's Deli exactly three minutes after its noon opening, the parking lot was "filled with—I’m going to say— every pickup truck in Bedford. Inside, the half dozen tables were all filled and a line of men in coveralls stretched from the cash register to the door."
But after biting into the fish 'n' chips' perfectly cooked piece of haddock and seeing the extremely large portions and casual, welcoming atmosphere, Spurr deemed the wait to be "worth the effort," unlike convincing a child that broccoli is just a weird-looking piece of green candy. In addition to the fish 'n' chips, which won a trophy for Best Fish 'N' Chips in the HRM at the Fringe Festival in 2010, Sydelle's serves up burgers, smoked meat sandwiches, and a chicken breast and avocado sandwich that Spurr's dining acquaintance called "fantastic."
TAO's cornucopia overflows with a bounty of outdoor apparel and equipment for camping, canoeing, kayaking, and skiing. If skis don't agree with your feet, you can choose to float on frozen water for two days while safely held above snow by a pair of weight-distributing shoes.
Established in 1938, Java Blend is a small-batch family-owned roastery and café located in the heart of Halifax. Like a reclusive film director, Java Blend has accumulated decades of experience resulting in an avalanche of accolades, including the Krups Kup of Excellence award for best espresso in Halifax. Java Blend sources fair trade and sustainable beans for its eclectic collection of coffees, including six original blends, which, like an insult comic stuck in an infinite loop, are roasted fresh each day. Snag a bag of fair-trade-certified Organic Mexican Nubes de Oro ($11/lb.) for a medium-bodied morning brew with vanilla and caramel notes, or explore new terrain with a batch of earthy Organic Northender Blend ($12/lb.).
