Within Shanti Hot Yoga, heat flows from radiant-heating panels and mirrors reflect glowing wall sconces as students bend and flow through postures. Led by certified instructors, classes conform to Shanti Hot Yoga’s values, using the 60- to 90-minute sessions to help students to be healthy, accessible, and peaceful. With a focus on community and eco-awareness, the instructors lead classes for all experience levels, offering help to students who have accidentally super-glued themselves to the cork flooring. The heated studio helps to deepen stretches, and classes provide benefits such as decreased stress, improved posture, and the ability to control the urge to smash buildings when enraged.
Gentle light filters through sheer drapes, casting a warm glow on the blond wood floors of the empty yoga studio. It's dawn in Dartmouth and, for the moment, the halls of All Yoga stand in contemplative silence. Soon, the first classes of the day will arrive, breaking the stillness that now pervades the studio's every corner. But the quiet always leaves something behind. As students flex and stretch their way through the day's yoga sessions, they will each unconsciously internalize the same kind of balancing energy that powered that morning's peaceful scene. Whether they quiet aching muscles with back care sessions, build strength and balance with slow flow yoga's vinyasa poses, or dissolve stress in the flickering glow of candlelight yoga, students bring their bodies and minds into harmony with the world around them. Like the quiet that fills countless unseen rooms in the moments before the world wakes up, they reach deep within themselves, finding strength and clarity along the way.
Sunlight gushes in through the all-glass exterior in the lobby of the Homburg Centre for Health and Wellness, SMU's freshly minted facility designed to keep students and the surrounding community active and fit. The multidimensional fitness haven offers an assortment of avenues for reaching good health. It houses a cardio room, a weight room, and three floating hardwood-floor studios where more than 35 drop-in group fitness classes unfold on a weekly basis. Meanwhile, competitive energy gets dialled up on four international squash courts, as well as in the gymnasium—a spacious place to shoot hoops, start a pickup game, or walk your elephant in poor weather. For post-workout routines, the centre offers a relaxing co-ed sauna and steam room.
On environmentally-friendly cork floors surrounded by serene-coloured walls and a white ceiling with heating panels, instructors demonstrate how to fuse body and mind while teaching 10 types of yoga classes. Students obliterate calories in Baptiste Hot Power yoga, which focus on building strength and challenging the cardiovascular system, and they work to ease stress and fatigue during restorative yoga sessions. Starting this spring, the studio will be also be offering RealyRyder Indoor Cycling classes.
