Though her ability to untie knots rivals that of a sailor, licensed massage therapist Lorna Ellis-Harding has been relieving aches and pains for long enough to understand the limitations of massage. Rather than rely solely on her Swedish, deep-tissue, and sports techniques, she draws from other areas of traditional and alternative medicine to craft treatment plans for the whole body. Her acupressure massages, for example, incorporate the principles of Eastern acupuncture to apply healing pressure to specific points of energy across the body. When she isn’t balancing energy or coaxing out toxins with gentle lymphatic-drainage techniques, Lorna consults with other local businesses to help her clients manage their weight and make healthful lifestyle decisions, such as refraining from eating french fries while juggling chainsaws.

Tell us a little about your restaurant.
Oak Haven Table & Bar tapas style gastropub that specializes in beer, wine, and bourbon. It is nestled in historic grotto neighborhood of New Haven. A cafe that opens as a trendy gastropub and transforms into a vibrant bar at night. As our name suggests, we are a fusion cafe that sells delicious wines, craft beers, and spirits that complement a farm to table food menu. We support local farms, vineyards, micro breweries, and distributors whenever possible, and want to be a sanctuary for the cultured consumer. You walk in and see the warming wood accents, rustic Edison fixtures, the abstract furniture, that all seamlessly flows together to create a Feng Shui ambiance that makes everyone inside feel comfy.
In your own words, how would you describe your menu?
Our mission is to sell fresh and unique food and drinks. Our product must meet the highest standards of quality, freshness, and seasonality while combining both modern-creative and classical styles of cooking. Oak Haven Table & Bar always keeps its concept fresh, exciting, and on the cutting edge of the hospitality industry. Lastly, we give back to the New Haven community to improve the quality of life of everyone in our neighborhood.
There's always a seat reserved for Dennis Harold Neville at Madden's Gastropub. In addition to being the father of co-owner Nathaniel Neville, Dennis was a UCONN sports fanatic, a Vietnam cryptographer, and one of two very important people to inspire the eatery. The other was Madison Virginia Ponte, daughter of co-owners Norbert and Norleen Ponte, whose love for life persisted despite a fatal childhood disease. Dennis and Madison remind the owners and chefs of Madden's Gastropub to pour their hearts into their cooking everyday. The result is a menu of finely crafted gastropub eats such as steamed clams and slow-roasted pulled pork tossed in bourbon-barbecue glaze and topped with caramelized onions, aged cheddar, and apple-cranberry slaw. Entrees include dry-rubbed hanger steak, slow-simmered buffalo mac and cheese, and grilled pork chop topped with tropical fruit salad.
A combination corner bar and haute cuisine restaurant, Christopher Martin's Restaurant and Pub keeps it local with cheeses from Colchester, ice cream from Milford, beef from Barkhamsted, and beers poured right behind the bar. A neighborhood fixture for more than a quarter century, the eatery's seasonal menus reflect their commitment to freshness and their unflagging creativity. Whether splitting orders of butternut-squash ravioli or creamy goat-cheese medallions in the dining room or clinking glasses of local brews over seafood pot stickers in the pub area, guests get a flavorful taste of New England living.
