The NASM-certified personal trainers at Gifted Bodies strive to improve lives, not just bodies. Driven by the belief that all clients have the potential to become gifted, trainers redefine clients' limitations and push them toward progressive goals with a mixture of firm motivation and compassion. During boot-camp classes and group sessions, which include kickboxing, Zumba, ab work, and yoga, they guide patrons of all backgrounds through invigorating routines.
They also visit homes for one-on-one appointments—as long as they have a 5'x5' space or a permit to punch through drywall, trainers can commence a custom exercise routine. To instill sustainable habits for healthier living, they place emphasis on nutrition as well as gym drills. Troy Samuels, Gifted Bodies' creator and nutritional counselor, likens one's diet to the fuel put into a car: the proper fuel allows the vehicle to hit maximum speed.
JCF Boot Camp offers hour-long outdoor fitness routines, held in rain or shine, that meet three to five days per week. Each class is a smorgasbord of calorie-obliterating exercises that include circuit training, core workouts, plyometrics, boxing, cardio, and resistance, all conducted by an experienced trainer. JCF founder and fitness guru Daris Wilson will lead the charge to push participating bodies and minds during every class, paving the way for fully realized fitness goals. At boot camp, working out with others motivates you to push yourself harder, helps you stick to a regimen, and gives you the opportunity to bond with new friends over tales of general sweatiness and mutual plans to beat up the ocean.
The certified fitness instructors at Try Me Fitness Studio use multiple methods to help individuals attain their personal fitness goals. Boot-camp and Zumba classes combine cardio with different brands of strengthening movements, and yoga sessions help clear minds while fortifying core muscles. Wall-to-wall mirrors follow students’ every pushup and head spin in the brightly lit studio, and a number of workout apparatuses help them along the way.
Laureen Mikos was barely walking before she started tapping, stepping, and swinging. At age five, she discovered a love of dance, studying jazz, ballet, tap, and modern dance styles before most people grow out of their baby feet. Over the years, her repertoire expanded to include hiphop and bellydancing, as well as Zumba dance fitness.
At Shakin' It Up Dance and Fitness Center, she leads a team of personal trainers, dancers, and fitness instructors to impart choreographed wisdom in dance and exercise classes. The center's curriculum introduces guests to ballroom and jazz dance as well as more upbeat options, such as Zumba fitness classes set to a soundtrack of Latin tunes.
The instructors at Vida Wellness Studio help patrons work towards fitness and overall happiness through workshops and fitness classes. Chattering drumbeats ripple from speakers during belly-dance sessions, which draw on techniques from Oriental, Caribbean, and Latin American dance traditions to bolster flexibility and build core strength. Little feet patter on the floor during kids’ classes that encourage fitness and self-expression through dance. When not eliciting choruses of relaxed sighs through yoga poses, instructors draw upon boxing and martial-arts techniques to tone your physique and make it more believable that Die Hard was based on your life. Core strengthening is maximized by controlled movement through Pilates training. Special wellness events at the center have included nutrition classes and musical jam sessions.
East Coast Fitness’s 20,000 square feet house separate rooms for martial arts, spinning, group workouts, massages, and general exercise. On the main floor, strength-training machines, cardio machines, and free weights occupy separate areas, with additional room sectioned off for stability ball exercise and a herd of eight punching bags. Certified trainers and instructors also lead more than 15 classes that range from spinning and Pilates to yoga, kickboxing, agility training, and Zumba. In the lobby, a juice bar refreshes hungry athletes and a separate room offers free childcare.
