Intended to strengthen and tone muscles while simultaneously improving posture and building mental focus, the training originally designed by Joseph Pilates continues to live on at Project Pilates. The center's instructors understand that every student has needs specific to their fitness levels, body types, and goals, so they help clients develop personalized exercise regimens.
Whether these regimens include personal training or group classes that incorporate everything from mat work to training on the Reformers, Cadillacs, and other apparatus, every workout has the common goal of teaching students how to perform functional movements as efficiently and cleanly as possible. This level of physical control requires an immense amount of focus and concentration, although it also helps properly strengthen the muscle groups that are used in everyday life. Over time, Pilates training can retrain the muscles that lead to improved posture, greater flexibility, and the ability to lift a sofa one-handed in search of the remote control.
As an athlete with an M.F.A. in dance, as well as an instructor with years of experience teaching dance and Pilates to college students and dance companies, Mary K. Vogt is eminently qualified to lead the team at Harmony Pilates. Along with a small group of instructors, she lead clients through solo or duet sessions or group classes. The private sessions make full use of equipment (cadillac, reformer, chair, etc.), while group classes rely on mat, trampoline, and tower equipment. Classes are held seven days a week.
Light streams into the second-story windows of NYC Fitness, illuminating hardworking exercisers as they pound away on cardio machines or lift weights in the sprawling gym. Meanwhile, expert instructors lead clients of all fitness levels through a slate of classes, including spinning, Pilates, and Zumba.
Transformation Fitness doesn't just see to the fitness needs of its own members. Its roster of health professionals, including yoga instructors, personal trainers, and massage therapists, works to design and implement fitness plans for area clients. The team maximizes sweat at its own storefront as well, leading classes such as kickboxing and Zumba six days a week.
Springs. Mats. Ballet barres. A diverse menagerie of fitness equipment customizes and intensifies workouts at Pilates Bodies Fitness. Legs spin and cores engage in indoor cycling classes, while the Tower and Reformer add a vertical exercise plane to a Pilates Free for All session. A variety of equipment adds complexity to Pilates Fusion classes. Over 135 classes in 11 types fill the schedule, and each is taught by an instructor with experience, a passion for what they do, and a set of days-of-the-week sneakers.
Pilates With Nadine's eponymous instructor leads classes that focus on posture and flexibility, building cores to create healthy, sturdy bodies. By using stretching and strength exercises during private and group lessons, Nadine improves her clients' breathing techniques and range of motion. She's been a certified mat instructor since 2005, and her participation in continuing education allows her to keep up to date on Pilates routines without calling every teacher of Pilates in the world every single day.
