Select Local Merchants

The optometrists at Eye Contact Vision Center's two locations examine eyes for prescription changes and diseases such as glaucoma and cataracts during comprehensive exams, treat poor eye health, and permanently correct vision with lasers. Customers can select frames by brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Gucci, and Ray-Ban, and if the glasses don't look as good as they did in the store or don't conceal a secret identity well enough, Eye Contact Vision Center will buy them back for up to one year.

If there's one thing the optical team at Cohen's Fashion Optical have learned in their 22 years of business, it's that people don't want to wait to see better. That's why they keep their lens laboratory on-site. After Dr. Thomas O'Kane finishes assessing visual acuity, the lab techs craft prescription lenses and fit them into one of their boutique's more than 1,400 styles of frames.

On June 19, 1946, a veritable herd of racing fans—18,724 of them, in fact—galloped through the turnstiles at Monmouth Park Race Track. It was a gathering fit for a historic return, and indeed it was: 53 years separated that moment from the last time the track had hosted a race. Originally opened in 1870 in an effort to increase summer trade, Monmouth Park was immediately popular, earning the moniker “Newmarket of America," a reference to the famed course in England. Yet in 1894, the state of New Jersey banned wagering on horses, effectively ending the facility's operations. In the 1940s, though, a man named Amory M. Haskell lobbied to have that law reversed. Today, the track honors its legislative savior by hosting the annual $1 million Haskell Invitational, the richest Invitational in America. The1 1/8-mile race limited to standout 3-year-olds in a race “Where Champions Prove Their Greatness”.

Founded in 1914, the original New York City location of Sterling Optical doled out frames amid the Ford Model Ts and paperboys that swarmed the city's financial district. The original band of eyesight experts weathered years of economic depression by impressing customers with speedy, full-service vision care, later launching a second store near Washington, DC. Today, a century of steady franchise expansion has given rise to almost 200 store locations in 23 states. Most locations continue the tradition of offering one-stop optical services, giving customers access to exams and onsite labs that manufacture glasses in one hour. The spectacle provider has been named one of the nation's leading franchises by Entrepreneur magazine.
