A skater-owned organization, Providence Roller Derby rewards wheeled shareholders and raucous spectators with fiercely competitive action, clever rink wear, and stamina-demanding athleticism. Pack into the Rhode Island Convention Center for 60 minutes of skate-clad action as the league's two traveling teams defend home hardwood against swift interlopers. Co-captains Hot Apply Cry and Hot Sauce lead the red-kerchiefed Riveters into tilts against the Dutchland Derby Rollers’ All-Star team and the raven-aided Poe's Punishers to settle simmering rivalries and arguments over the proper treatment for rink rash. Undefeated in 2010, the Killah Bees join the Riveters for a late-summer doubleheader against the forces of French Canada in a skate-aided intercontinental incident.
Founded in 2006, we have spent the last few years skating fast, hitting hard and traveling to compete against the top leagues around the east coast and beyond. We are proud to call ourselves the Daughters of the American Derby Revolution. Roller derby is real, athletic, and exciting! Come watch a bout and you'll be hooked!
The blue waters lap gently at the fleet of boats docked in the certified clean Three Belles Marina. There, Three Belles Outfitters allows visitors to go on guided fishing trips, rent kayaks, kayak accessories, and stand-up paddleboards, in addition to selling kayaks, boards, and accessories.
Fronted by British-Nigerian lead singer Sade Adu, Grammy-winning band Sade has seduced eardrums with a potent mélange of R & B, soul, and jazz for nearly 30 years. Performing songs from the new compilation album The Ultimate Collection, Sade will delight fans with greatest hits as well as a smattering of brand-new songs, melding soul-stroking vocals with eye-tickling dancing and onstage spectacle. Special guest John Legend will also throw his honeyed voice into the ring, soothing ears that have been damaged by the cacophony of city life and the screeching of prima-donna chalkboards.
Warm in winter, cool in summer, and filled with amazing acts in every season, the Big Apple Circus's pair of Italian-made big tops contains the best of several generations' worth of circus traditions. A look at any show's cast finds a complex network of venerable European circus families passing the arts of juggling and trapeze artistry down through the years, while the tents' motors and seating make for a comfortably modern spectator experience.
You might never guess that the troupe started small in 1974, when American circus artists Paul Binder and Michael Christensen joined forces as a juggling act on the streets of Europe. They moved from streetlights to spotlights in a hurry, appearing on the stage of the Nouveau Cirque de Paris, before returning to the U.S. and creating their own not-for-profit circus in 1976 and raising their first tent in New York's Battery Park.
