As they enter the training circle at Curves, female guests come face-to-face with the smiles of other women. One minute is spent on a piece of strength-training equipment built for feminine frames and designed to work two opposing muscle groups with a single movement. Giant Strides Fitness’ owner, Danielle Shaw, defines what it means to be an athlete. As a player, she competed in collegiate and professional soccer. As a leader, she held the title of assistant coach for the NC State Wolfpack soccer team. In her spare time, she has completed 10 marathons, and she coaches athletes at Giant Strides.
