Embarking on a mission to enhance the quality of life for each student, the instructors at Premier Pilates & Yoga lead a full schedule of fitness classes that launch participants toward their fitness goals. Instructors with more than ten years of experience, lead groups of up to six students stretch their limbs and synchronize their breathing while practicing either Ashtanga, Restorative, Gentle, Kripalu, Hatha or Vinyasa yoga techniques, which improve strength, balance, flexibility, and the ability to limbo under a closing garage door. 55-minute Pilates mat and circuit classes focus on toning muscles and strengthening the core through a series of controlled elongated movements that work on stretching various joints. For more intense muscle building and a healthy dose of variety, the studio also hosts Get F.I.T. boot-camp classes, kettle-bell, and TRX training. Workout sessions run seven days a week during the day and the evening.
The Yoga Room is all about inclusivity. The studio hosts classes for beginners, intermediates, experts, and even expectant mothers. This fits nicely into the studio’s stated philosophy that "yoga is a personal practice, not a competitive or comparative one." Although they may not discriminate, the highly trained teachers sometimes show tough love as they push muscles to channel their inner origami. Aside from the full schedule of yoga, fitness, and dance classes, special events such as an Ayurveda workshop encourage students to stretch their minds as well as their bodies.
Tucked into downtown Tuckahoe is a little 'haven' where you can rejuvenate and rebalance your body, mind and spirit. We offer 50 classes a week, many levels and many different styles of yoga. Everything for the very beginner to the more advanced, pre and post pregnancy, restorative, teens, meditation and workshops.
Soothing music and soft lights reveal The Yoga Sanctuary as just that—a safe and peaceful place where guests can cast stress aside. The studio's nationally registered instructors weave their global teaching experience into each asana as they strive for—and teach the importance of—inner peace and tranquility. They work individually with guests of all ages and fitness levels, unlike the NFL and most quilting circles. With this inclusive approach, the instructors help clients unite mind, body, and spirit in a wide selection of classes, strengthen cores with Pilates exercises, and also teach postures for beginner, intermediate, and experienced students. To further the restorative effects of yoga, the studio also hosts yoga therapy sessions to help alleviate such health issues as back pain and insomnia.
The Yoga Sanctuary's onsite massage therapist intuitively customizes her kneads and strokes to reduce stress and fatigue. This can also improve joint flexibility so that guests may easily slip into complex postures or cast-iron wetsuits.

At Dahn Yoga's Bronx location, yogis practice mind-body exercises and focused meditation pioneered by founder Ilchi Lee. Before each hour-long class, patient instructors guide students through preliminary warm-ups, including body tapping to trigger blood flow and an abdominal press that kneads out stomach tension and tilts full-abdomen tattoos of flaming pinball machines. Students can gently loosen sinews and build mobility through joint rotations and meridian stretches, and learn martial-arts-esque moves meant to increase awareness. Deep breathing postures aim to engender tranquility, while brain wave vibration exercises meld meditation techniques with rhythmic motion for a more serene cool-down. All classes take place on provided mats in a spacious studio suffused with golden tones, with walls covered in tapestries showing craggy peaks striking eerily perfect mountain poses.
Brazilian Jujitsu dominates mixed-martial-arts competitions and has captured the imaginations of hundreds of aspiring fighters, including Tito Hatz, the head instructor and current owner of East Coast United. To hone his skills, Tito travelled to Brazil to train under members of the Gracie family, the clan credited with originating modern Brazilian Jujitsu. As an instructor, he believes in sculpting bodies of all ages and genders into the physiques of elite athletes. Students at his gym grapple through the traditional exercises of Brazilian Jujitsu or pummel unseen opponents with the lightning foot, fist, elbow, and knee strikes of muay thai kickboxing. Those interested in professional fighting undertake training in a blend of the two arts in mixed-martial-arts classes. Certified yoga instructor Maywatte Hartz teaches relaxation and mental focus in her Vinyasa yoga classes, which focus on mastering deep breathing and flowing movements.
