Fully licensed by the New York State Department of Education, Allstar Bartenders Training educates students in the art and science of mixed-drink pouring and presentation. Apprentice mixologists get acquainted with the functions of different bar tools while learning which cocktails should be shaken, stirred, or whisked using a handful of uncooked angel-hair pasta. Allstar's seasoned tenders aid students in memorizing the recipes, garnishes, and matching glassware of the most popular concoctions. The school's classrooms resemble mock cocktail lounges with ample shot glasses and jukeboxes, giving students a realistic setting to practice drink vending. Allstar treats its graduates to complimentary lifetime job-placement assistance and refresher courses.
Action Driving School's experienced driving instructors help students of all ages throughout New York City and Long Island pass their driving tests with flying colors. Teachers ride along with students during a series of 45-minute lessons, building confidence through hands-on experience behind the wheel, and imparting knowledge with fluency in English and Russian.
Although Rajendra Hariprashad was in the Marines, his most trusted weapon—the one that launched him into private enterprise as a business owner—was not a rifle, but a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse. During his four years of service, he taught students behind the wheel of his own compact sports car. When he was discharged and went back to New York, he shelved law-enforcement career ambitions and opened Ena's Driving School.
Today, the school teaches road safety to new and seasoned drivers alike. Along with prelicensing and defensive-driving classes, instructors lead motorcycle, CDL truck, and CDL bus lessons. Rajendra's business savvy and entrepreneurial acumen have won him press in Forbes, Fox Business, USA Today, and other media outlets. He even partnered with truTV's Impractical Jokers to prank students who were behind the wheel for the first time. Afterward, several neighbors and new customers called to inquire about classes and how to fit a spring-rigged banana-cream pie into the glove compartment.
Rajendra's law-enforcement career continues to remain on hold. "I'm lucky," he says about his driving school and other business ventures. "This is fun. I want to be in the open road."
The recipe for a successful cooking class requires the right mix of teacher, chef, and nutritionist—a balance that each instructor strikes at Young Chef Academy. They host students aged 4–18 in weekly cooking classes which regularly change recipes while sticking to the monthly theme. They cater to individual children, school field trips, and even scout troops. They even teach kids how to make their own treats during birthday parties, such as birthday cakes that come out of the oven already on fire and ready to be blown out.
As a native of the Dominican Republic, Claudette Munné loves merengue beats—but as classical pianists, she and her husband Massimiliano Facchini also cherish traditional piano pieces by European composers. To celebrate these dual passions, the pair arranged a series of fresh, merengue takes on old classics, a project that resulted in a sold-out two-piano show at Carnegie Hall and an interview with NBC.
Revamping traditional piano music isn't the couple's only collaboration, however. They also worked together to found Belle Arti Center for the Arts, a music school that caters mainly to children. Their toddler classes focus on training young ears and building a sense of rhythm that moves beyond freestyle clapping. During private lessons, they train students on instruments from the guitar and violin to woodwinds. Their classes follow a semester schedule, with each semester session culminating in a recital for family and friends.
