Appetizers, such as empanadas dunked in a housemade sauce and guacamole made tableside, kick off meals before the real treat: platefuls of pork loin, skirt steak, chicken, ribs and fresh seafood—all cooked Colombian style. Patrons can order their own individual helpings from the menu—which includes items such as paella and chicken-and-mushroom crepes—or share a Tejarrilla Andres platter packed with enough Colombian chorizo and smoked pork ribs for two people or one pet bear. As the night rolls on, the dance floor tempts guests out of their seats with neon lights and live music crooned from a nearby stage.

This has been a part of the school's mission ever since Miss Cathy Dooley founded it in 1956, with the aim of sharing the joy of dance with aspiring students throughout Queens. Under the direction of Miss Michelle–who studied under such legends as Gregory Hines and Brenda Bufalino–this tradition continues. For over 57 years, the studio's combination of quality instruction and friendly atmosphere has earned it accolades from sources from tap legend Charles "Honi" Coles to Mayor Bloomberg. Students commute from all five boroughs to attend its ballet, jazz, hip hop, and tap classes and show off cutting-edge moves at an extravagant year-end gala performance.
Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden's shaded confines have been around since 1910, and not much has changed besides the trees’ height. Guests still flock to the garden year-round to gather around steins of Bohemian brews and plates of potato pasta with sauerkraut. The chefs serve food straight off the garden's grills when the weather allows, and the result is an atmosphere that feels more like a backyard party than a restaurant. Rows of tables encourage socializing, and live music frequently adds to the revelry. Jorday Rivera's passion for hip-hop and Latin dance infuses her classes with rhythmic energy during each meeting at her namesake studio. Jorday's interest in dance began at a young age when her parents took her to the bustling streets of Broadway to watch colorful stage productions and the spontaneous musical numbers that would take place during each rainstorm. By the time she reached adulthood, Jorday had garnered extensive experience in mambo, salsa, cha-cha, and hip-hop disciplines and had danced side by side with the likes of Eddie Torres and Mario Diaz. This accumulation of hip-swiveling savvy eventually led Jorday to cultivate a love of teaching, finally opening her own dance studio in 1997. Today, the studio houses a variety of dance classes, from modern and hip-hop to belly dancing and Latin, led by a cadre of instructors trained in a panoply of styles.
