Having reeled in 25 years of experience as a licensed fishing pro, Steve Roberts shares tricks of the trade during half-day and full-day fishing trips, welcoming avid anglers and beginners alike onto his fully equipped fishing vessels. Throughout the year, Steve and company track down seasonal targets. Winter trips focus on chinook, or winter steelhead, and autumn trips chase after coho salmon—a feisty fish notorious for fighting under water and starting bar brawls on land. No matter what the target, every trip with Steve includes all the necessary gear and an endless stream of expert advice.

To Justin Doane, there are few things better than being out on the water and breathing in the coastal air. Having spent his youth shuttling between Oregon and Alaska on fishing trips with his father, he now has an in-depth understanding of local ecologies and where the best places are to seek steelhead and chinook, depending on the season. Today, he leads daylong trips out onto the Nestucca, Trask, Wilson, Nehalem, and Salmon Rivers, to name a few, and provides all the equipment necessary for amateur anglers to return home with impressive catches.

As a member of the Northwest Guides service, Bob Rees escorts his charges out onto the region's waterways in pursuit of marine life. Salmon and sturgeon are both common finds, but Rees particularly sets his sights on Oregon's most prized shellfish: the Dungeness crab. He deploys his navigational skills to find promising waters, and once there he helps his guests reel in the catch. While fishing gear is included with the cost of each day trip, make sure to procure a fishing license and affix a sturdy peg leg ahead of time.

Housed at the bottom of the roaring Willamette Falls, which comprises the confluence of Willamette and Clackamas Rivers, eNRG Kayaking's on-water shop and docks serve as the home base for instructional excursions in kayaking, rapids rafting, and standup paddleboarding. Head instructor Sam Drevo also helps those more experienced in watersports to attain a swift-water rescue certification or an ACA instructor certification, required credentials to shake hands with most river deities. Sam watches over all levels of kayakers with experience earned through years of competing, including a ranking as the world's sixth-best freestyle kayaker in 1998 and a first-place win at the Ford Gorge Games' Outdoor World Championships in 2001.

When Sam is not leading tours around the falls or down segments of either river, he guides extended expeditions to other northwestern and foreign waterways. His 16 international aquatic excursions have taken paddlers to rivers on four continents, through countries such as Canada, Costa Rica, Thailand, Laos, China, India, and Botswana. Sam and his staff aim to protect the rivers through eco-friendly exploration and sell a range of kayak models to help others to similarly respect the ecosystem or sneak up and tickle unsuspecting bass.
