Throughout the year, The Wright Family Farm stays busy. In the spring and summer, fresh fruit and vegetables from the seasons-long harvest is sold at their farm stand. During the fall, the farm welcomes families for a variety of activities, including pumpkin picking, hayrides, and adventures through the intricately cut corn maze. Once winter comes, the farm is a destination for picking the perfect Christmas tree, with three varieties of fresh-cut trees available alongside wreaths and garlands.
"I love the early mornings out on my tractor preparing the soil, checking the fields," muses Farmer Pete. "We care about this land, the food it provides, the visitors growing family traditions." That care is evident to anyone who visits Barton Orchards. The farm?lovingly maintained by Farmer Pete, his dad, Bruce, and a staff of experts?produces a wealth of pick-your-own fruits and veggies that range from summery peaches and green tomatoes to fall staples such as pumpkins and Braeburn apples.
But produce is just the tip of the spading fork. Each fall, Barton Orchards beckons visitors to its corn maze, which was voted one of the Top 10 Corn Mazes for Families by Kidventurous. The maze, also featured in the New York Post, winds participants through 5 acres of cornstalk artwork and quizzes as they immerse themselves in the theme of the year. This year's theme is "Mazes in Movies" and will make reference to Harry Potter, The Maze Runner, and Labyrinth. In celebration of the fall season, Barton Orchards also hosts a haunted house and a fun park with a football pitch, slides, and trains.
Each fall, Apple Ridge Orchards opens its gates and welcomes the public to traverse a farm filled with tree-ripened fruit and old-fashioned amusements. In the orchard, visitors pluck from 15 types of apple trees. Tractors pull families and groups on hayrides, traveling to the pumpkin patch where they can pick a gourd worthy of a homemade pie or a carving of Susan Sarandon's face. For fuzzier amusement, kids can pet Apple Ridge?s family of friendly farm animals, or observe honeybees in a glass observation hive.
Kim’s Bagel Cafe indulges cravings throughout the day with a menu of fresh breakfast specialties and hearty sandwiches. Pop-culture-inspired items keep taste buds abreast of important trends, such as the Jersey Shore–inspired Mike the Situation sandwich, stuffed with hot sopressata, pepperoni and hot capicola. Toasted paninis, wraps, and rolls bear monikers that refer to local landmarks, such as the Ward Avenue chicken-salad sandwich and the West Main Street loaded with roast beef. After bidding adieu to the day and negotiating potential salary increases with the sun, dinnergoers can stock up on entrees such as mash and meatloaf or ziti and meatballs to enjoy in the comfort of their own homes.
