Licensed massage therapist and skincare expert Irina Ionina had always dreamed of running her own spa where she can heal others while fostering relaxation and well-being. Having opened Ganesha Spa, she’s achieved that goal, and now spends her days practicing eight modalities of massage, such as shiatsu and hot stone, to relieve muscle tension and alleviate stress. She also rejuvenates skin with anti-aging treatments such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, micro-needling, and nonsurgical face-lifts, and hosts kundalini mediation classes each Monday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
"Liberation Yoga is founded on the belief that every human being can and should be free." This motto sums up the philosophy of Liberation Yoga, while the center's practices put the motto into motion. Here, students can free themselves of stress and tension during classes that incorporate the mind-body-spirit connection through deep breathing, core-strengthening moves, and meditation. By practicing the ancient technique, students can also lower their risk of heart attacks and relinquish dependencies while increasing their self-awareness and sense of community with other practitioners. These benefits extend outside of classes as well. In the Wellness Center, visitors can further their healing during massage and reflexology sessions, reducing muscle aches and calming their minds from mentally cursing their muscle aches.
As a nationally certified and licensed massage therapist with a master's degree in special education, Jolie Schiering knows the power that touch can have to reduce anxiety and show support. Drawing on this experience and more than 1,000 hours of bodywork instruction, Jolie tempers troubled sinews with a variety of massage techniques. Lounging in a private room, clients prepare for Swedish, shiatsu, or hot-stone bodywork as the scented tendrils of aromatherapy oils uncurl through the air. When not calming muscles as a therapist, Jolie uses knowledge gained while acquiring a personal-training license to compete in races such as the San Diego Marathon, and obtained CPR certification from Red Cross.
Inside of clean, private massage rooms, Healthy Massage’s therapists renew bodies and spirits with a wide-array of massages, including Swedish, deep-tissue, and hot stone. Separate rooms are available for couples that want to indulge in a shared experience, and the staff complements it’s bodywork roster with facials and waxing. Healthy Massage’s two locations are open seven days a week.
It’s all about relaxation and privacy at The Spa at Westwood. In three different rooms, the staff pampers guests with facials, massages, and body treatments such as a peppermint seaweed wrap. For facials, the team uses top-quality products from Dermalogica and Christine Valmy, with a variety of cleansers, moisturizers, and creams that target diverse skin needs. In a mere 10 minutes, they can also help guests get bronze with a natural, spray-on tanning system—a statistically more effective option than placing some hair, a jilted lover's necklace, and a bronze medal inside a cauldron and incanting Beach Boys songs.
