Fitness Camp is an indoor/outdoor exercise program consisting of group fitness instruction, motivational training, and accountability provided by fitness experts. We specialize in Fit Camp interval training done right with a sprinkle of fun. We also mix yoga, circuits, body sculpting and kick boxing into our Fit Camp.
Bally Total Fitness enshrines exercise classes, calorie-burning equipment, and a fitness-focused staff within its sanctuaries of health. A 30-day guest pass includes access to a spread of group exercise classes, including Pilates, Reaction Cycling, Step Fitness, and High-Impact Hopscotch (class offerings vary by location). For self-guided worker-outers, cardio equipment such as treadmills, elliptical machines, cross-trainers, and stair climbers torch calories while entertaining the brain with video entertainment and integrated music systems that occasionally whisper quotes from Charles Atlas. Bally also boasts a bulk-building army of strength machines, free weights, and small-apparatus equipment, and grants gym-goers access to on-site locker rooms, showers, and, at some locations, a pool and steam room. Visit each location's webpage for a list of specific amenities and the lineup of classes.
Helmed by certified trainers, Dana’s Body-Zone cultivates a supportive, social environment for getting fit in more than 30 weekly classes. Designed for students of all genders, fitness levels, and skill sets, most workouts brim with inspiring music and booming encouragement to floss every day. Group Groove torches calories with an hour of club-style shimmies and Latin-inspired hip swivels, and Group Kick punches stress in the kisser with martial-arts and boxing drills that tone the arms and abs. Saddled with stationary bikes and heart-rate monitors, spinning students pedal toward cardiovascular endurance and making thighs more powerful than a monster truck holding political office. Relaxing poses from the yoga and Pilates traditions build long, limber muscles at each Group Centergy session, and instead of lifting hippos to build fat-fighting muscle mass, Group Power students press and curl barbells for 60 minutes.
The practitioners at Maya Whole Health Studio focus their efforts on strengthening the minds, bodies, and spirits of each client. With a full schedule of yoga and Pilates classes, they draw on the dynamic energy of a room full of practicing students to keep everyone motivated. They also offer private sessions for students who need more individual attention or would like to benefit from personalized adjustments throughout their practice. In addition to classes and workshops, Maya Whole Health Studio offers health services including massage, holistic skincare, sugar hair removal, and acupuncture, all of which are focused on releasing fear and tension and bringing more joy and spontaneous hugs from strangers into clients’ lives.
Accomplished swordsmen Serge Timacheff and Kevin Mar cofounded Washington Fencing Academy as a haven for fencing enthusiasts of all ages and abilities to hone their skills. Accompanied by skilled coaches—including 2011 veteran world champion Maitre Wang Yung—the duo delivers traditional Olympic-style instruction according to guidelines laid out by the United States Fencing Association and International Fencing Federation. Classes focus on two fencing styles: épée, in which fencers target their opponent's entire body, and saber, a more fast-paced style that targets the upper body only. Sessions unfold atop 11 fencing strips that span a modern sports floor, cushioning steps and comforting joints without the need to compose a knee-specific lullaby.
