Getting fit doesn't have to be just a boring routine. At Shape-Up Fitness Center, each workout can be a little different than the one before. One day might call for an invigorating spin workout in the brand-new, 29-bike studio; another day might include a Vinyasa Flow yoga or cardio dance class. Along with the wide variety of group classes, the newly renovated fitness center also has more than 40 state-of-the-art cardio machines. And after a great workout, members can treat themselves to a revitalizing facial or an infrared sauna treatment at the Shape-Up facial lounge and spa.
The Spa Gregorie team won Spa Finder’s Reader’s Choice award for Best Day Spa of 2011 for rejuvenating skin with Spa Gregorie's botanically enriched product line and encrusting toes with Swarovski crystals. In addition to brining beauty and relaxation within grasp, each location expands the reach of Western medicine with alternative therapies for pain relief and programs geared toward new mothers and oncology patients. Contributions to the Make a Wish Foundation and multiple cancer research organizations echo this allegiance to health care, and any nonprofit group or charitable organization may use the Del Mar spa's conference room for free. Attentive to both human and environmental health, Spa Gregorie's efforts to reduce waste, energy consumption, and chemical use earned OC Metro's 2011 Green Team award.
In 2011, the International SPA Association honored Spa Gregorie's CEO Angela Cortright with the Dedicated Contributor of the Year award. The press release cites her commitment to well-being and public service beyond her three eucalyptus-scented spas and reveals her favorite quote to be Muhammad Ali's maxim, “Service to others is the rent we pay for our room here on Earth.” This attitude has earned the company an avalanche of awards, which document the good works of its expert aestheticians, hair designers, and massage therapists, as well as the saint bernards that dig them out from under piles of laurel wreaths each day.
Working from inside Joshua Christopher Salon, aesthetician Sara Palazzola helps clients regain youthful skin and a vibrant appearance through a host of facial treatments using Repêchage products. Clients can refresh their visages with signature facials, bronze their bodies with organic spray tans, or pamper their backs with treatments composed of cleanses, scrubs, masks, and massages.
The staff at Bronzed Airbrush Tanning wants its clients to gain sun-kissed color in the safest way possible. To them this means not lying in the sun or consuming bag after bag of clementines, but instead airbrushing the skin with a mist of color. They employ a tanning solution free of skin-irritating alcohol, parabens, and fragrances, and since the DHA—the active ingredient that colors the skin—is derived from beets and sugar cane, the spray is also certified organic. Both tanning options, regular and express, are customizable to the client's natural skin tone and the color lasts for at least one week.
Registered nurse Francine Oca fondly remembers tagging along to work with her aunt, a professional makeup artist. She'd watch in awe as brushes whisked across faces, brightening eyes and highlighting smiles. Though these tune-ups were small, they made a world of difference to women's perceptions of themselves.
Today, Francine, along with Dr. Jose Guerra— a board certified physician in family medicine— helps women cultivate beauty and confidence as an aesthetic nurse at Live Gorgeous OC—a Medical Spa that specializes in noninvasive enhancements such as laser treatments, botox, dermal fillers, and wrinkle-smoothing injections.
To promote safety and peace of mind, the clinic offers FDA-approved treatments whenever possible. Though the treatments often summon a girlish glow, Francine doesn't believe in making all faces look as young as an egg in a baby bonnet. Instead of performing unnecessary treatments, she will guide clients toward products and habits that make skin look naturally fresh and vibrant.
The Skin You're In helps clients achieve their desired looks through skincare services that range from facials, chemical peels, and microdermabrasions to waxing and tanning. The staff uses paraben- and dye-free GloTherapeutics skincare products to nourish ski. and bronze visitors with South Seas spray-tanning solution, which is the only tanning product used on Dancing with the Stars.
