With the help of local sponsors and volunteers, The Green Foundation upholds its mission to preserve and publicize the natural beauty of Newport News with the Dig-In Earth Day 5K race. Families, competitive runners, and escaped zoo animals embark on the chip-timed 5K contest and the lighter, 1-mile fun run from the City Center fountain. A post-race party boasts a DJ set, raffles, and prize giveaways.

Sponsors in addition to The Green Foundation include I Am Fitness, an organization that seeks to cultivate health and inspire adventure among Newport News residents through a variety of athletic events.

Chesapeake Bay Sailing Adventures charters voyages marked by breathtaking ocean sunsets, wind-filled sails, and the laughter of families and friends. Passengers ring in anniversaries and birthdays upon a spacious 39-foot vessel, making toasts in the cozy, comfortable cabin replete with comfortable couches and a full kitchen. Guests relax under the safe custody of a skilled captain and crew, or they can opt to learn how to guide the vessel through the tides or master the complicated jargon and intricate secret handshakes of maritime workers. During each half-day, full-day, or sunset voyage, guests munch on complimentary snacks and soft drinks or sip their own brought-along beverages.
